She was the widow of Michael Penta. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Society of Maria Virginia Del Carmine Society and Society of Muliebre Del Ad-dorata. Surviving are five sons, Michael Penta, Carmen and Roc-to Penta, all of this city, Anthony Penta, Asbury Park and Joseph Penta of Newark; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Natala and Mrs. Sue Terracciona, both of this city; two sisters, Mrs.

LaFRF.DA Mrs. Sara E. LaFreda, wife of John T. LcFreda, of 117 Monmouth Red Bank, died Monday in Riverview Hospital Mrs. LaFreda was bora in Hightstown and was the daughter of the late George and Sara Johnston Compton.

She was a Red Bank resident 27 years. Mrs. LaFreda was a member of the Long Branch Baptist Church. Sumsing, beside? her husband, are a daughter, Mrs. Charles Wood-worth of Covina.

two sons, Floyd A. Wolcott of Smithtown, L. and Chester L. Wolcott of Red Bank, and three sisters, Mrs. Edgar David, Mrs.

Oliver You-mans and Mrs. Eva Youmans, all of Long Branch. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 oclock at the Adams Memorial Home with Rev. John F. Crouthamel, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Fair View Cemetery. Oceanport Blaus Death Ruled Suicide OCEANPORT William J. Garrett was found dead last Thursday in his home at 9 Pocono Ave. Dr. Julius Toren, county physician, termed the death a suicide.

He said death was caused by gunshot wounds In the head. Police Chief Robert G. Berry said a .32 caliber pistol was found near the body by Mr. Garretts daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.

George A. Emmons of Head-den's Comer. They immediately called police. chief said there was no apparent reason for the suicide. Mr.

Garrett was bom in Jersey Gty and was a son of Mrs. Helen Weber Garrett of Bayonne and the late George W. Garrett. He had liVed in Oceanport 15 years, moving here from Bayonne. He was a construction engineer with the J.

Rich Steers Company o( New York Citv. His late wife, Mrs. Catherine A. Ournn Garrett, died in December, 1957. Besides his mother and daughter, Mr.

Garrett also is survived two grandchildren; four brothers, James Garrett of Jersey City, and John. George and Robert Garrett, all of Bayonne. The funeral service was held Tuesday. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery, under direction of the Worden Funeral Home.

Benjamin Hili, Hetired Sergeant WLST LONG BRANCH Benjamin V. High, 67. of 15 Homestead died Friday at Patterson Army Hospital, Fort Monmouth. Mr. High was born in Inman, S.

and was the son of the 'ate Doc and Lina High. He was a resident of the Shore area 28 years. Mr. High was a retired army master sergeant. He left the Signal Corps in 1942 after serving 30 years.

A verteran also of World War Mr. High worked as a civilian employee at the communications center, here. He retired in 1957 after 15 years of service. Mr. High was a member of Washington Lodge.

Lillian Eardley High; one son, Benjamin V. High, Jr. of Fort Hood, four daughters. Ms. Patricia James of East Africa, Mrs.

Helen Hankinson of Basking Ridge, Mrs Lillian Norris of Germany, and Barbara Hafemann of Alaska; five brothers. Toy. Ashy, Carlisle, Cullen and Howard High, all of South Carolina; two sisters. Mrs. Gordon McMakin of South Carolina; and Mrs.

Samuel Wilkins of North Carolina, and seven grandchildren. The funeral service was held Tuesday at the Robert A. Braun Home for Funerals with Chaplain (Lt Col.) John A. Olschewske of Fort Monmouth officiating. Burial was jn Woodbine Cemetery.

BISHOP R. C. RANSOM XENIA, Ohio (AP) Retired aishop Reverdy Cassius Ransom, 98, who once led a single-handed attack against a Chicago policy syndicate, and who was responsible for the first Negro being appointed to the New York City police force, died last Thursday at his home in nearby Wilberforce. He was a former Oceanport, N. resident who left the Shore in 1932.

He is the father of Reverdy C. Ransom, Oceanport. Rev Mr. Ransom reportedly took his first two names from two southern Congressmen who fought agains slavery. He retired in 1952 as bishop of the Third Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Ctrtirch.

In 1903, he single-handedly led an attack on a policy syndicate in Chicago. Before he completed his mission, his church was dynamited but his campaign led to the indictment of 110 numbers racket people. In later years he was knighted by the president of L'beria -a predominantly Negro nation. He also was a member of the Ohio state parole board. Rev Mr.

Ransom lived in Wilberforce the past 27 years and was former president of the Wilberforce University board of trustees. Other survivors are his widow, Mrs. Myrtle Teal Ransom, and a son Harold Ransom of Montclair, N. J. Appaneal Will Is Probated FREEHOLD Among the will probated this week by Surrogate Edward Broege wa that of Annie Appaneal of Middletown.

Mrs. Appaneal, who died March 8, left $100 each to Robert Philips, Victor Appaneal, Frank Ka-sabucki and to each of the two daughters of Frank Kasabuckl. One half of the residue was left to a stepson, Michael Appaneal; and one-twelfth to each of her stepchildren, John and Anthony Appaneal, Mary Meier, Victoria Kissel, Anna Phillips, and Helen Beatty' Annie P. Watrous, Eatontown, who died April 5, left $25,000 and personal effects to a niece. Alice K.

Aman; $3,000 to Gcnevive Schwedfeger; $2,000 to Mary Har-rigan, and the rest in trust funds to her niece, Alice, and Harold W. Aman, Jr. Augusta M. Gaynor, Rumson, who died April 16, left $3,500 and furniture to her sister, Lilly G. Smith, and the rest to her daughter.

Armonce M. Sullivan Gerald G. Wiggins, Mata-wan, who died March 17, left $1,000 each to Anna B. and Warren F. Wiggins, and Katherine Farrell; $500 each to Anne M.

and Maureen Wiggins, and $499 each to Elizabeth Wiggins and Arthur Pike. The rest of the estate was left to his son, Gerald G. Wiggins. Harold E. Riddle, Middletown, ho died March 2, left his estate to Walter and Arabelle Burkhardt.

Dora Barnes, Morris spent last week with Mrs. Mildred Kennedy of Chatsworth. Pack 27 met in the scout building last Thursday. The theme for the month was Down on the Farm. The Webelos den made a model of a farm and dens two and four gave a puppet show of farm animals.

Ralph Villars showed a movie on Navy frogmen. The theme for next month will be Hoe Down, and the Brownies will be invited. There will be square dancing. Mr. and Mrs.

Albert White, Hopping are spending five days this week with Capt. and Mrs. William Chamberlain and son William of Fort Lee, formerly of Belford. An organ recital May 25 is planned by the Christian Couples Club of the Methodist Church. The group met Monday in the church.

The club is open for new members. Present were Dr. Robert Blackman, Mr. and Mrs. John Lentz, Mr.

and Mrs. Jay White, Mr. and Mrs. Albert White, Mr. and Mrs.

Arthur Siemering and Mr. and Mrs. John Nash. Mr. and Mrs.

SAMUEL RATCLIFFE MATAWAN Samuel Ratcliffe, 89, died Friday in Mt. Pleasant Manor Nursing Home after a long Illness. He had been a resident at the home for three years.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church here. Surviving are three sons, Samuel and Harry Ratcliffe of Trenton, and William Ratcliffe of this place; eight grandchildren, and five greatgrandchildren. The funeral was Monday in Trinity Church with Rev. John W. Robson officiating.

Telephone 7-1352 Non-Sectarian WILFRED O. BAKER Wilfred O. Baker. 50. of 19 Rector Red Bank, died suddenly Saturday in Monmouth Medical Center, where he had been a patient one day.

Mr. Baker was born in Whitman, and was a son of the late Howard S. and Mary I. Osborne Baker He had been a Red Bank resident 12 years. He was employed as an Insurance salesman with Walker It Walker, real estate and insurance agency, Shrewsbury, three years.

Mr. Baker was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Puritan Lodge. FAAM, and Pilgrim Chapter 89, Order of Eastern Star, both of Whitman. Besides his wife, Mrs.

Miroslava Popiel Baker, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis A. Valler of Whitman, and Mrs. Constance L. Sporgo of Holbrook, a grandson; four sisters, Miss Alice L.

Baker of Washington, D. Mrs. Kenneth Mackenzie of Charlotte, N. Miss Marion L. Baker of Whitman, and Miss Edythe W.

Baker, Pasadena, and two brothers, Leslie Baker of Whitman, and Harry A. Baker of Danbury, Conn. The funeral service was held Tuesday at the Worden funeral home with Rev. Charles L. Brown, pastor of Church of Christ, officiating.

Cremation followed at Femcliff crematory, Hartsdale, N. Y. MRS. JAYBE JACKSON Mrs. Bertha M.

Jackson, 55, died Friday in her home, 132 Leighton Ave. She was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Jay-t-e Jackson of Long Branch; a daughter, Mrs. Jessie M. Dixon at home; a son, Alvin Dark of New York; a mother, James Chance of Fort Lauderdale, a sister, Mrs.

Willie Roberson of Red Bank, and a granddaughter. The funeral was Tuesday in the Pilgrim Baptist Church with Rev. Henry L. Morgan officiating. Burial was In White Ridge Cemetery under the direction of the F.

Leon Harris funeral home, Red Bank. THOMAS L. LITTLE LONG BRANCH Thomas L. Pierce, formerly of this place and Red Bank, died last Thursday in Fort Pierce, Fla. He lived there since 1957.

Mr. Little retired in 1951 as an executive of the N. J. Bell Telephone Co. He was employed there 40 years.

He was a resident of East Bergen Red Bank, for many years. Mr. Little was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Red Bank, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Surviving are his wife, Mrs.

Myna Worthington Little; a daughter, Mrs. Edward J. Cogan of Syracuse, N. a son, Paul P. Little of Plainfield, and seven grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday in Star of the Sea Catholic Church where a requiem mass was offered by Rev. John Horan, pastor. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery, under direction of the Wool-ley Funeral Home. MRS.

MARGARET L. WILSON BROOKLYN Mrs. Margaret Lewis Wilson, 90, widow of Edward S. Wilson, died April 18 in her home, 1360 St. Marks Ave.

Mr. Wilson died in 1932. I Mrs. Wilson was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Bennett Lewis, and was born in Middletown, N. J.

Mrs. Wilson was an active member of St. Marks Episcopal Church, New York Ave. and Union St. She was a lifelong friend of the late Mr.

and Mrs. Peter O. Wei-gand and family of Hazlet, N. and was well known there. Survivors include a cousin, Mrs.

Kitty Lewis Smock, West Long Branch, N. J. The funeral wasAheld Tuesday of last week in the Fairchild Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Rev. John Anderson, of the Church of Atonement, officiated.

Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, South Brooklyn. RUSSELL P. MERRICK ORANGE Russell P. Merrick, 71, of 495 Main died of a heart attack Saturday at his home. He was a retired assistant secretary of the New York Trust Company.

His son is Robert B. Merrick of Red Bank. Mr. Merrick was born in Port Morris and had lived 35 years in South Orange and seven in Maplewood before moving here two years ago. He was a member of the Old Guard of Summit.

Mr. Merrick, who was in the corporate trust department, had been with the bank 40 years. He retired in 1947. Also surviving are a daughter, Miss Ruth Merrick of Orange; two sisters, Mrs. Warren McKeeby of Caldwell and Mrs.

Frank Fitzher-bert of Sparta, and two grandchildren The funeral service was held Tuesday at the Colonial Home, East Orange. MRS. MARIE PORTER RUMSON Mrs. Marie Porter, of 137 East River died at her home Saturday after a short illness. Mrs.

Porter was bora In Ireland, daughter of the late Thomas and Julia Charles Flatley. She was the widow of James E. Porter. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and lived in this area most of her life. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs.

James Rignev and Miss Evelyn Porter, both of Rumson; three grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. The Rosary was recited Monday night at the John E. Day Funeral Home. The funeral service was held Tuesday in Holy Cross Church, where a high requiem mass was offered by Rev. Thomas Flatley, Mrs.

Porters grandnephew. He is curate of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Stony Point, N. Y. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Bearers were Dennis K. Byrne, Neil Gettis, Raymond Porter, William Brown, James Flatley and Robert Wade. MRS. FRANK PASQUA RUMSON Mrs. Anna Teresa Pasqua, 61, of 32 Holly died Monday in Monmouth Medical Center after a short illness.

Mrs. Pasqua was bom in Italy and was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Catherine Scared-la Sestito. She lived in Rumson 28 years. Mrs. Pasqua was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband, Frank Pasqua, and a daughter, Miss Car-mela Pasqua, at home. The funeral service was held this morning in Holy Cross Church, where a requiem mass was offered by Rev. Joseph A. Sullivan, pastor. Burial was in Mt.

Carmel Cemetery, under direction of the Damiano Funeral Home. MRS. WILLIAM C. ROSS UNION BEACH Mrs. Alexia G.

Ross, 54, of 539 Central died Thursday in Monmouth Medical Center. Bom in Harrison, she had lived here five years. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the local Democratic Club. Surviving are her husband, William C. Ross; a daughter, Mrs.

Richard Trotter of Fair Haven; a brother, Raymond Biggin, and a sister, Mrs. Florence Me Kit-trick, both of this place. A high requiem mass was offered Monday in Holy Name Church by Rev. Joseph G. Fox.

The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements. EATONTOWN 7-0557 RED BANK CHARLES F. LADD FREEHOLD Charles F. Ladd. 79, died Friday at his home, 29 McLean St.

He was born in Vineland and was the son of the late Benjamin and Julia Ladd. He was a photographer and had been the proprietor of Ladds Studio since 1923. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Harriet J. Ladd; three daughters, Mrs.

Warren Prest, here, Miss Marcella Ladd, Detroit, and Mrs. Watson Kern, Port Monmouth; one sister, Mrs. Mary L. Paterson, Vineland, and seven grandchildren. Services were held Monday at 2 p.

m. in the W. H. Freeman and Son Funeral Home, with Rey. Dr.

George G. Horn, former pastor, and Rev. James R. Memmott, pastor of the Freehold Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery.

MRS. MARION P. MILLER FAIR HAVEN Mrs. Marion Porter Miller, 54, of 39 Kemp died Friday in St. Vincents Hospital, New York City.

She was born in Fair Haven. Mrs. Miller was employed as a registered nurse in Riverview Hospital and was a member of Nativity Catholic Church, Fair Haven. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Julia Kingston Porter; a daughter, Mrs.

R. R. McDaniels of Fair Haven; a sister, Miss Viola Porter, at home; two brothers, Edward Porter of Fair Haven, and Ralph Porter, at home, and three grandchildren. A high requiem mass was offered Tuesday in Nativity Church by Rev. Donald E.

Hickey. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery, under the direction of the William S. Anderson Funeral Home, Red Bank. MRS.

GEORGE F. TAYLOR HOWELL TOWNSHIP Mrs. Minnie M. Taylor, 83, a former resident of Freehold, died early Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sherman Hunt, Rt.

33. Mrs. Taylor was bom in Colts Neck, daughter of the late James and Matilda Smith. She was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church. She is survived by her husband, George F.

Taylor; a son, Harold F. Taylor, Farmingdale; another daughter, Mrs. Stewart H. Farrell, Interlaken; three grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Ella Weeks, Freehold.

The funeral service will be held this afternoon at 2 oclock in the C. H. T. Clayton and Son Funeral Home, Adelphia, with Rev. Peter Bolhouwer, former pastor of the Colt's Neck Dutch Reformed Church, officiating.

Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery, Colts Neck. OSCAR E. HALLBAUER LONG BRANCH Oscar E. Hall-bauer, 79, died last Thursday at his home, 256 Willow Ave. He was a retired Civil Service employee and had worked at Fort Monmouth.

Mr. Hallbauer was born in New York and was the son of the late Carl and Bertha Hallbauer. He was a member of St. Lukes Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs.

Matilda VanBrunt Hallbauer; three daughters, Mrs. Marie Behr of La-Grange, Mrs. Madeline Duer-ring of Tampa, and Mrs. Gordon Morris, this city; a son, Robert Hallbauer, in England; a sister, Mrs. Hattie Brazilan of Orlando, and 17 grandchildren.

The Woolley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. MRS. ANNIE T. WILEY UNION BEACH Mrs. Annie Trabold Wiley, 85, of 601 Lorillard died last Thursday at the Seabrook Hill Nursing Home, Key-port, after a long illness.

She was the widow of Addison A. Wiley. Mrs. Wiley was born in Orange. She lived here 40 years.

She was a member of Ivanhoe Council, Sons and Daughters of Liberty, Newark. Surviving are a grandson, C. Ross Doyle of Summit and two great grandchildren. She was the mother of, the late Harry W. Doyle of Summit and Joseph Doyle of Newark.

The funeral service was held Saturday 'the Paul Ippolito Funeral Home, Summit. ERCOLE A. MASSEY WEST KEANSBURG Ercole A. Massey, 39, of 123 West Fifth died April 21 at the Veterans Administration Hospital here after a lengthy illness. Mr.

Massey had been a resident here 10 years. He was a member of Bayshore Council, Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Anna Lucinski Massey; two children, Joseph, and Gilda Massey, both at home; his father, Joseph Massey, of Long Branch; and a Brother, George Massey of Newark. The Tamburro Memorial Home, was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. ANDREW B. MURRAY, JR. RUMSON Mrs. Katharine R.

Murray of West River Rd. died Saturday at home after a long illness. She was the wife of Andrew B. Murray, Jr. Surviving are a sister, Mrs.

Robert Sparrow of Wilton, and three daughters, Amme, Petra and Katharine Murray, all at home. The funeral was held Monday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, where a requiem mass was offered by Rev. Joseph A. Sullivan, pastor. Burial was in Mt.

Olivet Cemetery, under direction of the Adams Memorial Home. MISS MARY J. DELANEY NEW SHREWSBURY Miss Mary J. Delaney, 82, of 48 Clover-dale died Sunday in River-view Hospital. Miss Delaney lived here with Mr.

and Mrs. Walter OConnor. She was Mrs. OConnor aunt. Surviving also are several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held today at the Flinch and Burns Funeral Home, Lynbrook, N. Y. MRS. MARY KUEGLF.R EATONTOWN Mrs. Mary Kuegler, 88, of South died Monday at her home.

Mrs. Kuegler was born in Switzerland, and was the daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Ber-net. She was the widow of George A. Kuegler. Mrs.
