Thorp. This department is an Idea factory. The coffee pills are one ol the ideas that passed careful screen- Ing and now are undergoing development. Freshly rrasled coffee contains certain fragrant oils which are easily destroyed by oxygen. "The exiract would be taken out at low temperature, and covered with • blanket of nitrogen or other Inert gas to prevent contact with oxygen," Thorp said. "There are some problems to be solved but none of these seems insuperable." The pills could be packaged in jars or wax paper envelopes, for easy distribution. < Other ideas, of some 200 on the list. Include plastics made from boron, plastic magnets. Infra-red detectors, better dentifrices, liquid ozone and dust analyses to avoid underground explosions.
