MacArthurs Lockheed C-121 A Constellation transport plane is on display at the Planes of Fame Museum in Valle. The museum and the Valle Airport open this weekend. Tours of the Constellation, which is still operational, are $3 Saturday and Sunday.

Aviation fans can see planes from the past Another museum is being added to the ranks in northern Arizona. The Valle Airport and Planes of Fame Air Museums grand opening celebration is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday. Fourteen rare aircraft are on display at the museum, and the celebration also includes rides, charter flights over the Grand Canyon, food, music and prizes.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be at noon today. The airport is designed to relieve air traffic congestion at the current Grand Canyon Airport. Aircraft on display at the museum include a Republic P-47G Thunderbolt, 1929 Ford 5-AT Trimotor and a U.S. Army Air Force North American P-51a Mustang, which are all still fiyable. There will be drawings for rides on the Ford Trimotor and the P-5 1 Tickets for the drawings will be $5 each.

Tours will be given of the Lockheed C-121 Constellation. The aircraft was Gen. MacArthurs transport plane during the Korean War. The museum, along with other companies and volunteers, restored the Constellation back to operational status and replicated the interior by using drawings of the original interior. The tours will cost $3.

World War I aircraft in the collection include a British Bristol F2b fighter and a German Sie-ments-Schuckert D. IV fighter. World War II aircraft in the collection include the P-5 la Mustang and P-47G Thunderbolt fighters, a German Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10 Gustav fighter and a Japanese Fuji Ohka 11 piloted suicide rocket. There also will be other aircraft in the collection, including some from the Korean War era. Other area festivities will com- plement the grand opening.

The Valle-Wood volunteer Fire Department is hosting a barbecue and entertainment at 3 p.m. Saturday at Flintstones Bedrock City. The event also will include dancing and a raffle. Tickets for the raffle are $1, and the proceeds go to the fire department. A continental breakfast will be served from 6 to 11 ajn.

The exhibit continues through Aug. 25. Plants for sale The Arboretum at Flagstaff is hosting its 10th annual Summer Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.

Plants for sale include adapted perennials, wildflowers, shrubs and native plants. The Arboretum is located on South Woody Mountain Road off of Interstate 40. For more information, call 774-1441. Singing workshop Oberlin Conservatory of Music Professor Richard Miller is conducting a week-long seminar on singing and voice teaching as part of the Northern Arizona University Vocal Performance and Teaching Workshop. The workshop begins today and ends Friday.

Miller is an internationally recognized authority on teaching singing. He has done research and conducted master classes in Europe, New Zealand and the United States. The workshop also includes presentations by NAU music faculty members. Applicants are still being accepted. For more information, call 523-3849.

See AROUND, Page All Open auditions for Drunkard set Auditions will be held in the centers south classroom on the lower level of its new building, which is located at Highway 89A and Art Bam Road. The Drunkard opens Aug. 3 and runs through Aug. 19. Admission is $8 for the centers members and $10 for the public.

Open auditions for the Sedona Arts Centers presentation of the classic melodrama The Drunkard will be held Monday and Tuesday. Those interested in being a part of the melodrama should stop by SAC and pick up a script, look at the rehearsal schedule and read the audition notice that explains the characters and story.
