The vote was light, but the adverse majority was heavy, the result being 99d against th city charter to 91 in favor. There was virtually no 'ork done at the polls by either side.

Despite all efforts, some politics en tered into the matter. The Progressives favored the city charter nd brought about the eleOtion.The Repub licans, to a great extent, voted against the proposition for that reason. The present Council and attaches of th borough voted and worked against the change. A public meeting was held last week and the question was de bated lor three hours. It was there shown that while many might favor the city charter later they would oppose it now until some other citie trier! out the law.

CARE OF MILK IN HOT WEATHER. The following brief rules should enable a consumer so to care for the milk as to have an article that is at all times sweet and wholesome: If possible purchasers should insist ou getting milk in a bottle or other originally sealed package. Milk dipped out of a can in the street may gather inrgi numbers of bacteria from the dust and impurities in the air falling into it Never allow the milk to stand in a warm place for any length of time, but place as soon as possible in a refrigerator, icebox or other cool, clean place. Keep the milk or cream in the orig innl package until needed for use. Oiiefully wipe the mouth of the bot tle before pouring the milk or cream rroui it.

Do not pour back into the bottle any milk which lias been exposed to tbe air. Keep the bottle covered with a cap or an inverted tumbler as long as any milk remains In it. not expose uncovered milk In refrigerators containing foods having a strong odor. Wash milk Iwttles as soon as empty, and do not use milk utensils for any other purpose. Wash milk bottles in pure water and do not wipe with dish towel.

It Is better to scald them in clean water and set away tiuwlped to dry. Special precautions should be taken with the baby's milk bottles. They should first he rinsed in lukewarm water, then washed In hot water containing a little soap and then scalded. In selecting a feeding bottle choose one with a wide mouth and no corners. use rubber tube between the bof, tie and the nipple.

esDeclallv Wine Custard Palermo. Put a pint of rich milk in a saucepan with three ounces of sugar and boll.
