The orchestra, which arrived in Japan July 22 for a 30-day tour, played two concerts to packed houses Saturday in Hamnmatsu, a small city in central Japan. Japanese fans stood in thp aisles i to applaud. A round of swimming and boating parties was laid on for the young Americans afterward. ls Veins to a minimum if you so advise, but will hesitate if you say it won't help, as I realize the value of exercise to anyone who is phys ically able, I've tried wearing support hose but these tend to make a stinging sensation for about a day. Please send me your booklet on "How to Deal wih Varicose Veins." I enclose the neces sary 20 cents in coin and stamped, self-addressed envelope for it. MRS. E. B.

I'm glad hi ankrd fur the booklet, because it will explain exactly what varicose veins are, and help you know what you can do to retard or avoid them. Moderate exercise will help you. I certainly don't advise 50-mile hikes for anyone with varicose veinn. I advise reasonable walking, and this depends on the de gree of varicosity. I can't answer categorically without knowing more about the particular case, A daily walk of a few blocks might be fine for one person, and a mile or two for another.

Up and down stairs six eight times a day? Most women with varicose veins do that, unless they live in ranch houses without basements. IJfting? If you mean weight lifting, I'd say no. And I don't know why lifting 50 or 60 pounds would be necessary for a woman, As for the exercises, I have yet to see any on Iv that would be harmful to anyone with varicose veins, except, possibly, in very severe cases. Continue to wear the support hose (or elastic stockings, as I prefer to call them) even if they do bother you for about a day. They help.

And now that I've answered your questions, as well as I can without knowing more about your case, let me add some advice which may be more useful than just trying to gauge the amount of exercise. Walking or moving around is helpful, within reason. Spend a lot of your time, but not all, sitting or lying down. When you sit, put your feet on a footstool or chair. This benefits your "return circu lation." Avoid wearing tight carters or garments.

If you are overweight, reriuce At age 35. vou mitht well con sider surgical removal of thp faulty veins. Your doctor will have to evaluate the need for such procedure. Dear Dr. Molner: What does osteochondritis mean? MRS.

K. C. Inflammation of two kinds of tissue, bone (osteo) and cartilage (chondro). NOTE TO MRS. D.

There are two kinds of Paget's disease, one involving the bone, one involving the breast. I can't answer your question without knowing whic one you mean. "Don't Quit Because Of Arthri tis" is the title of my leaflet de signed to help all who suffer (he aches and pains of arthritis. Pat Collins is getting the Hol lywood crowd onstage in droves at a Sunset Strip club, often to make perfect asses of themselves.

The other night Tuesday Weld was hypnotized into believing she was a stripper. Her bumps and grinds would have made Tempest Storm blush. One night TJnda Christian was hypnotipd into thinking that an unknown customer next to her was Glenn Ford. "He's a rat," said Linda eloquently. It wasn't long after Ford had announced he was only kidding the night he proposed to Linda.

Lloyd Bridges, television' skin diver, was told he was back in "Sea Hunt." He swam through the club. Jill St. John's pretty torso was stretched rigidly between two chairs onstage during much of one performance. Susan Oliver feared flying. After a session with Miss Collins, Susan took off by jet for the Moscow Film Festival.

Most frequent subject is Pamela Mason who comes about once a week. One night she brought her 13-year-old daughter Portland and Show Times: MONDAY BASELINE DRIVE-IN Show starts at dusk. Crump drew three days in isolation late in June for loitering during working hours in the prison printing shop. Crump, 33, had been scheduled for electrocution Aug. 3, 1962, for murdering a food plant guard in a stickup in Chicago in 1953. But his lawyers appealed for clemency before the Illinois parole and pardon board. They argued that Crump was a new man in prison.

"She's onstage hypnotized." "Then get me Pamela Mason," demanded Rita. "Can't," answered Davis. "She's onstage hypnotized, too." It was Davis, then a press agent, who discovered Miss Collins playing for a week at a club in nearby Riverside. Davis signed her to a personal contract. She makes $3,000 a week and Davis is now owner of the club where he formerly worked as a press agent.
