Homing, who escaped from the Arizona State Prison in Florence on May 12, showed up in Grand Canyon Village last Friday after having kidnapped a man and a woman in Flagstaff a day earlier. After a failed attempt to also kidnap a family with a camper in the village Friday evening, park rangers chased Homing before he managed to get away. Homing fired several shots while being followed, one of which hit a park rangers car. Homing is carrying a .44 caliber handgun and is considered very dangerous, police said. A note found in the woods and a cassette tape left in the car Homing had hijacked in Flagstaff indicated that the California man intended to kidnap a total of six people.

The victims would be swapped for the fugitives freedom, $1 mil-lion in ransom and the release of Homings older brother Jerry, who is serving time in Florence for sexual conduct with a minor. Homing was serving four life terms for an armed Winslow robbery and is also a suspect in a California murder. Park spokesman Jim Tuck said police will continue closing parts of the parks today if sightings are reported.
