Coconino County Sheriffs Department deputies and Forest Service employees have been searching for several weeks for the body of David Brooks, 18, Mesa, who authorities believe was slain Thanksgiving day. The search is centered on four square miles of land near Clear Creek Pines Unit 89, a development about five miles east of the Blue Ridge Forest Service compound and 60 miles south of Flagstaff. Three suspects, two men and a juvenile female, have been arrested on murder charges and are being detained in Coconino County Jail. Sheriffs Lt. Jack Judd said the motive for the alleged slaying likely was a personal dispute involving a small quantity of drugs. Judd declined to say whether any other arrests are pending in the case. The two men who were arrested are Phillip Fritts, 22, and Anthony Berlet, 23, both of Mesa.

The 17-year-old girl also is from Mesa, according to reports. Searchers seek drowning victim The whereabouts of a Scottsdale mans body in the Colorado River still is unknown as rescue crews have searched the frigid waters at Lees Ferry the past two days. Coconino County Sheriffs Department officials said the search today will continue and that Park Service divers might be used. Robert Arcieri, 47, plunged into the river Sunday evening after he and three other persons returned from a fishing trip on a boat. Reports say Arcieri had complained of feeling ill and fell off the boat dock at Lees Ferry, pulling in with him another man, Kenneth Cauwels, 24, Scottsdale.

Cauwels swam back to the dock safely, reports say. Sheriffs Lt. Rex Stermer said Tuesday frigid waters have hampered underwater search with divers and that rescue crews are searching the river banks with boats. He said authorities have not asked Glen Canyon Dam officials yet to reduce the water flow into the river. Two homes in the Fairfield Continental Country Club area were burglary targets Tuesday night, based on Flagstaff police reports. In one break-in, $4,280 worth of items, including a camera, Magnum handgun, jewelry and $235 cash, were taken sometime between 2 and 4 p.m., according to reports. The burglary occurred at the home of Daniel D. Pasich, 47, 600 Skyview St. Reports indicate intruders cut out a window screen in the laundry room to gain entry into the residence.

In another burglary, nearby, $523 worth of items were taken from a residence at 1741 Columbia Circle, according to reports. Harold Weller, 45, told authorities the break-in occurred at his home sometime Tuesday afternoon. Items taken include a television and coins. Reports say entry into the house was made through a bedroom window. There are no suspects in either house burglary.

During the 24 hours from midnight Monday to midnight Tuesday, the Flagstaff Police Department responded to 124 service calls. Seventeen arrests were made, one for driving while intoxicated. One injury and 14 non-injury accidents were reported and there were no fatalities in the city during that period. CRIMESTOP 774-1234 A 33-year-old Flagstaff woman narrowly escaped being raped Tuesday evening after being beaten about the head with a closed fist by her attacker, according to police reports. The victim, who lives on the 600 block of South Elden Street, was treated at her home by medics.

Reports say she sustained a bloody nose and bruises on the face. The suspect is described as a black male, 25-30 years of age, 154-175 pounds, and wearing a black cap, black gloves, dark pants and a dark coat. He was last seen fleeing on foot on Elden Street. According to reports, the victim was sitting at home watching television with her two daughters, ages 2 and 6, around 11 p.m. when she heard a noise at the front door.

Reports say she walked into the suspect inside the house and the man grabbed her and tried to sexually assault her. The victim told police the man threatened to kill her if she did not cooperate. As one of the victims daughters ran out of the house to seek help from a neighbor, the man fled, according to reports. Reports indicate that the victims front door had been kicked in. In another police report that might be related to the attack, a prowler was seen in the same neighborhood the same night around 10 p.m.

Police reports indicate a man whose description closely matches that of the attacker was spotted by neighbors prowling on the 500 block of South Leroux Street. Reports indicate that there had been an attempted sexual assault at 2530NORTH'4tK'STREET ffiE Mffi DRIVE AN IMPORT? VEVE GOT YOUR PARTS!
