Smith was ANA executive secretary and manager until severe rheumatoid arthritis forced her to retire in 1980. Later this year, Mrs. Smith was to receive the Golden Service Award from the ANA in recognition of her outstanding service to the newspapers in the state. The award is one of the two highest distinctions given by the association. Survivors include her husband, John; one son, Larry of Bloomington, and mother and brother, both out of state.

Lorrane Filut 45 CHANDLER Mrs. Lorrane Filut, 45, died Friday at John C. Lincoln Hospital, Phoenix. She was born Jan. 30, 1937, in Linton, N.D.

Mrs. Filut moved to the Queen Creek area in 1967. She was a private duty nurse aide. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, at the First Baptist Church, 830 W. Ray Road, Chandler.

The Rev. Larry Jordan will officiate. Burial will follow at Mesa Cemetery. Survivors include her husband David Bellemont; three sons, David A. Kevin and Ernest; two daughters, Mrs.

Wanda Wells, Chandler, and Miss Cheryl Filut, Chandler. Also surviving are four grandchildren, four sisters and three brothers. Bueler Mortuary, Chandler, is handling the funeral arrangements. CRIMESTOP 774-1234 At least $1,000 worth of merchandise was taken in a weekend burglary at an East Santa Fe Avenue tire business, police reported. Darold Jansen, manager of Double Tire, 1808 E.

Santa Fe said the store was closed during Labor Day weekend. An employee checked inside the store Sunday but found nothing disturbed. Jansen told police the break-in was discovered Tuesday shortly after- 8 a.m. Police said evidence indicated two suspects apparently drove to the rear of the business, climbed on top of the transformer shed and knocked a hole in the roof to gain entry. Police found a claw hammer on the roof which had apparently been used to break the hole.

The suspects may have backed a truck up to the rear of the store to haul away merchandise, police said. Jansen said he would have to make a full inventory to find what had been taken. He told police 10 tires valued at approximately $1,000 were missing. The publisher of the Northland News reported 10 newsstands worth an approximate amount of $500 stolen from various business locations throughout Flagstaff. Marge Jean Lee, 41, publisher of the bi-weekly paper, said the stands were taken sometime between Aug.

25 and Tuesday. The stands were wooden and painted bright red, Lee told police. A man and a woman charged with possession of marijuana and the man arrested on an additional charge of possession of a stolen credit card, police reported Tuesday. Donald Ordway, 37, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Sharon Rate Stark, 27, Spring Valley, were iarrested afterbeing questioned by police at an East Santa Fe Avenue service station. The service station attendant had become suspicious of a credit card used to relating to competition between the universities and private enterprise, and take action on plans for using Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe for professional football.

The regents will meet in executive session Friday at 9 a.m. The board will convene as a committee of the whole at 10 a.m. to hear persons desiring to address the board. Various committee meetings will follow and continue throughout the day. The regular meeting of the board begins at 9 a.m.
