Commuting from -New Jersey to York Is again on the increase after a decided slump, attributed largely to the depression, according to statistics prepared by the Regional plan Association. Statistics obtained through a survey made by the association shows that on an average business day in 1924 a total of 342,000 persons crossed th. Hudson River and entered New York. This number continued to crease until 1929, when the peak JCTHU WOO tv.wv nivit wwfww aons arriving daily from New Jersey. The number of commuters then gtarted to decrease until 1933, when the average daily total was 305,000.

Since that year there has been a gradual increase, the daily total for 1334 being 308,000. In the report of the Regional Plan Association, it is pointed out that the rise of 1.1 per cent in the commuter traffic after a 10 per cent decline in a decade should be considered is a significant indication that the bottom of the business depression was reached in 1933. Erskine of the Marine Corps, who has an opportunity to interview many young men at his office in the Federal Building, 641 Washington Street, New York City. Even when their home surroundings are better than the average, there seems to be an inborn desire on the part of every normal young man to go places and do things," Major Erskine stated yesterday.

"Eager to begin a new life, far from their home environment, the primary question asked by nearly every applicant is 'Where do we go from "Happily, the Marine Corps is able to fill this desire.
