Says the Post: The approaching camping season has somewhat en-liveued National Guard circles and provided an important question for discussion. "Whore are we going to camp?" Is a u.uestiou heard on all sides. The fact lhat the regulars are going into oamp at Santa Cruz makes It doubtful hether that place will be visited by the natioual guardsmen.

Santa Cruz has been favorably mentioned by the officers of the First Infantry for a camp location this year, bat the members of the First prefer to go into camp alone. Some few weeks ago reference was made in these columns to the fact that the great Milan house of Maggioni Francesco was now directly represented in New York by Paul Carossi, of 34 Greene street, as resident agent. The gloves of the house have long been held in high favor in the United States and for about fourteen years they were handled by P. Cen-tenieri Co. Hut Mr. Maggioni established a special agency here in August last, with Mr.

Carossi in charge, as above staled. Many enquiries having been made about these popular gloves since the former article was published, it is proper to add to what was then said, that Mr. Carossi has adopted the plan of giving some leading firm in each large city and town the exclusive control of the sale of the gloves in that particular city or town. An adjourned meeting of the City Council as held Monday evening. Mrs.

Mr. Hoborls and Mrs. Wilson were thou granted permission to lay the sower on Main under tho direction of the CoininlsHioner and City Surveyor.

The matter of connecting tho Peakos House with the sewer system by means of a wooden sewer was brought up, and it was the sense of the Council ttiat it should not be ullowod. The bond of Gilicor Uawlo, with Spalsbury and Duncan McPherson as sureties, was acueptod. The matter of certain proporty-owners on Suijuol lo run a sower across Pacific Av. to the Lincoln St. sower, was discussed, and it was reported (hat there is opposition to it.

A resolution was then otloied by ConncdiuHii Garrett fixing Monday, Juno 10th, at 8 v. as the time for considering the charges made again it Armstrong A Notloy, and the resolution was on motion adopted. City Attorney Storoy gavo it us his opinion lhat a petition from the major portion of (he citizens, asking the Council to levy a special tax at tho next levy for an incandescent light system, would bo tho best method to reach tho nutter. It would bo perfectly legal to raiso money for the purpose in thin manner.

It could not he done immediately unless by anechil election to isnue bonds. At present ho would not advise the Council to commence proceedings before tlio beginning of Ihe next tiscal year. The first stop would bo to get tho majority of the properly-ownoi'H to polition. Council man Finkeldey Hiiggohled that it would be proper for each Councilman to canvass his ward. The Coiiucilnien said that they del nut havo time to attend to it.

"To begin wilh," replied our repre seutative, "we want a broakwater to reach from otT Light-house point to a point opposite Woods' Lagoon. Then we want another whistling buoy, as tho one now in the bay does not make enough noise. Wo also want a three- story postolllce, built of stone and brick, on Pacific Av. Wo would not evon objoct to the government building a custom liouso aud big hotel on Beach Hill, I would suggest that you use your olfurts in having 11 cruiser liko Iho Charleston built to Hail on Boutdor Creek, and protect the fish from being blown up hy dynamite.

Aptos wants a custom house, and bo does Sofiuol. I think Watsonville would be satisfied if a mint would be built there." "I have figured up tho amounts theso thiugs you suggost would cost, and tho amount is close 011 to 000," remarked Clunie. "Do you think you would have any trouble in gotting that amount appropriated." "Not in tho leust, not in tho least but aro sure that is all you want? You can just as well ask for more; the Government Is wealthy, and there is no harm iu asking. If you have neglected anything you can write to me," said Clunie, as iu company with Assessor Noalon, of Sau Fran cisco, he boarded the moving train. As the (rain was starting (be reporter assured Clunie that Sauta Cruz does not want tho oarth, but will he satisfied with a appropriation.

A special dispatch to tho Chronicle from Santa Cruz states lhat the citizens of that city were greatly excited over Ihe paragraph in tho issue of yesterday morning slating tiialati alleged agent of the National Building and Land Protective Union of Minneap olis had left Yailejo without his hoard bill, failing to get any of the citizens to tako shares in the institution. It now appears lhat a tall, portly, ruddy complcxioued man has been operating in Santa Cruz in the interest of tho "Kmerson Colo Building and Loan Association of Minneapolis," and lhat he has collected monoy from soverat prominent citizens wiio are now on tho anxious bench. Ci run iefc, Tho dispatch the Chroniclo refers to was sent from tho Surf olllco. It was an enlargement of the truth. Ttie citizens know little tho association named.

A few stockholders wero atii loss when they road that an agent of said association had left a town without paying his bill. W. Alorehead, Ihe agent who organized the Santa Cru. branch, writes from Sau Fran cisoo that he report is a "lio," aud that he will be here in person at once. Wo shall believe tho company is till the tnuh is established to the contrary r.

Morehead took an ad. to iho Surf, but that journal asked more for its Insertion than ho was willing to pay, consequently he did not patronize it. Tho Minstrels Goodyear, Cook Dillon's Refined Minstrels succeeded in filling the Ur-nheum with delighted audiences throughout the week. The company is as good as any thai has visited tho coast of late years, and its members are all artists in their soveral lines. Goodyear, Kdwards and Green are true exponents of Negro Minstrelsy, aud evoke too wildest merriment without ever descending to coarseness or vulgarity.

Ben Mowatt does a ro- markabty clever duo swinging act. Ktsworth Cook is a refined female impersonator aud sings a couple of songs in a clear soprano voice. Wei by and Pearl are above the average in their sketch act; the Ihreo Nichols I trot hers are wonderfully graceful dancer. and make the air musical when they touch their banjos; and in conclusion it may be said that this instrcl Organization ia just what it is represented lo bo. It looks as if (he real old fashioned Minstrels were dying out, but Goody ear, Cook iV Dillon have clearly demonstrated that there is life in the real old article Mirror.

Ibtrtmau, of tlx sale, 'JO 7 Pan tic A nef to Par- lar troops lu Santa Cruz would aome-whatalfect the social connections of the First, and if it visited Santa Cruz often with the regulars, the oillzeus would not, perhaps, be Inoliued to exert themselves to any great extent in receiving them. San Joso is not considered, owing to its having been visited hy this regimeut last year. The most favorable place Is Santa Hosa. The regiment has always been received lu a royal manner by the Santa Kosans, and has always enjoyed its week's stay there. If this enterprising place again comes to ttie front with a liberal offer of coin (0 help swell tho appropriations received from the State, It is probable that the First will go there.

The Third Infantry also intends lo go into camp, but has not as yet selected a place to go to. In the event of a brigade encampment being held, the present plans of the regiment will fall through and the brigade will probably go to Santa Cruz. Fast experience with division and brigade encampments have can Bed tho regimental organizations to keep shy of any proposition to hold one this year, and any effort upon the part of the brigade commanders to hold one will be strenuously opposed by tho regimental commanders. Visiting' Wheelmen. At an early hour Sunday morning a party of wheelmen left San Jose on their bicycles for a trip to this city, taking the summit road from Los Gaios and arriving here by way of So-quel.

When near the Hotel de Bed-wood one of the party, T. Jamison, took a "header" from his bicycle and received a severe sprain to his left arm, disabling him from riding further. At Soquel a wagon was sent after the young man, and be was conveyed to this city. His Injuries from the fall, however, are but slight, and in few days he will be able to again rldo the "silent steed." After reaching this city, the distance being made in about five hours, the wheelmen enjoyed a ride to the beach, and around the clilf, being joined by the local wheel- men, returning home ont be ex cursion train in the afternoon. They report the roads in a fair condition for wheeling, especially for the safety bi cycle, which is now becoming the fa vorite mount, threo of the party riding this style of wheel.

Following are the nainos of the visitors: K. Cor- rillo, T. Jamison, D. Y. Hen.sill, W.
