Week-End Activity At Local Soldier Hospitality Center "Cadet Co-Ed" hostesses at Service Hospitality Center during the week end were members of Groups IT and ITT. with Miss Barbara Jester, Miss Barbara Byrd and Miss Maud Muller Burleson as captains. Those in Groups and TT who served Saturday were: Misses Bet tv Stoll, I.ynn Morgan, Ellen Purifov, Barbara Byrd, Susan Dunbar, Betty Wheelock, Virginia Smith.

Bobby Jo George, Jane George, Joan Douglas Bnrara Jester, Connip Logsdon. Buena Allvn Watt, and Jean Brown Group III served Sunday with Misses Fern Sumner. Pauline Sumner. Rosemary Blackburn, Betty Owen, Buena Allyn Watt, Angie Martin, Dorothy Love, Carolyn Mogaritv, Margaret Clowe, Griffith, Margaret Sutton, Geraldine Bishop, and Jeanette Purlfoy present during the afternoon, Miss Helen Bonner, sponsor, was by Mrs Fielding Atehley and Miss Jane Smith. Senior Mrs.

Christopher Knox was senior hostess in charge during the past week and week end. Her assistant hostesses were: Mrs, Frank Brock on Monday; Mrs Cullen Dunn and Miss Fannie Greenlee, Tuesday; Mrs. Ralph Stell, Wednesday; Mrs Elmer Butler and Mrs. Ballard George, Thudsday. Mrs.

Floral Contributions. Mrs. Tracy Smith and Mrs Bell White were in charge of florid arrangements for the week end Large and beautiful bonquets of pink, white and yellow zinnias and other summer flowers were placed at cantage points throughout the Center. Sunflowers with yellow zinnias and canna foliage Were used on ths side table, and pink zinnias on the front table. On the coffee services were dahlias and zinnias in shades from deep red to light pink.

The sr.ack bar was centered with white zinnias in deep crystal container Mrs. J. E. Butler Jr, was captain of the Canteen Corps that served refgreshments during the week end. Mrs.

Forester and their young grandson, Bill Davis, left for Houston on Thursday to spend the week end with Mr, and Mrs. Hylan Davis. Bill has been a guest in the home of his grandparents here for the past, several weeks. Bert Taylor of Teague, lineman for the B. and R.

I- Railroad, was a business visitor In Corsicana on Saturday. Miss Nancy Cade of Dallas is a guest of her aunt, Miss Kitty Hestilow. Senator Tom Connally, who was a Corsicana visitor last week, has been named honor guest of a picnic that is being sponsored by the Temple Chamber of Commerce for the evening of August 27. Marion R. Church of Dallas, whose wife is the former Susy- belle West of Corsicana, was one of the three recent puchnsers of the Heart of the Hills Inn, resort hotel 16 miles from Kerrville which has been popular with Corsicana vacationists in the Heart of the Hills country for years.

Out of town guests in attendance at the wedding of Miss Betsy Hollister and Edward Seaman at Highland Park Methodist church on Saturday evening were Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Fortson of Corsicana, Mr.

Bartlett of Rice. Miss Helena Underwood, daughter of former Corsicanans, Dr- and Mrs. George Underwood, was a bridesmaid at the wedding. Mrs Warren D- Ambrose of Fort Worth, a former resident of this city, was joint hostess with per daughter-in-law, Mrs. Joe Ambrose, at the home of the Warren Ambroses, Eagle Mountain Friday evening for a miscellaneous shower and supper complimenting Miss Madline Fisher, bride-elect of Aviation Cadet Kelton Smith.

Mrs. Joe Ambrose will serve as one of the bridesmaids in the wedding. In a list of activities for entertainment and pastime of service men in Waco over the week end, it was noted that Mr and Mrs. Allen Ixive, former Corsicanans, conducted a bingo party on Saturday evening at the USO club. Miss Maizie Shields of Dallas is visiting in the home of her grandmother, Mrs.

Mack Harrell, Texas baritone of the Metropolitan Opera who appeared here as the W. J. McKie Memorial attraction last spring, has been signed to co-star with Dorothy Kirstscn, Metropolitan lyric soprana, on the new radio feature, which will be inaugurated on September 5. Pvt. Tom S. Chandler, of Ennis, who has many friends in Corsica na, who will he interested In knowing that he Is a prisoner of the Japanese government and is being held at Philippine Prison Camp No. 1, according to information received by Ennis relatives Pvt. Chandler Is a member of the Army Air Force ground crew, and prior to sailing for foreign duty in November, 1941, was stationed at Hamilton Field, Calif.

Mrs. Albert A Guess returned Sunday evening from Oklahoma City, where she visited Mrs. Ralph Guess and little daughter, Rollin Ann. Mrs. Earle Campbell left Wednesday by train for St.

Louis, where she will join her husband, Pvt. Earle C. Campbell, who is stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Mrs. Campbell was accompanied by Staff Sergeant and Charles Burks, who have bene visiting Sgt, parents for the past ten days.

C. Gilly and family. Robert Werner left on Saturday evening for a week end visit in Houston Greenville Girl Weds Army Officer Friday Evening The marriage of Miss Mildred Faye Spradling of Greenville, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Richard Spradling of Orange, and Lieut.

Rex B. Werner of Greenville, son of Mr and Mrs. John Rohert Werner of Roswell. New Mexico, was solemnized in an impressive twilight ceremony on Friday evennig at the home of the bridegroom's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs John C.

Club Last Friday The Currie Home Demonstration Club met August 20 in the home of Miss Donie Abbe After a short business session the meeting was turned into a social affair. The main event was an old time spelling bee and the namink of the books in the Bible.

Mrs. Abbe won the prize. She was given many gifts as it was also her birthday. Refreshments were served to six members and six visitors. The next meeting will in the home of Mrs.

Returns Home From Month's Stay in Portland, Ore. Mrs Orville Harrison has returned from a visBt with her husband, who is a machinist mate in the S. Navy with headquarters In Portland, Oregon. Mrs. Harrison had the pleasure of viewing the beautiful roses that have made Portland famous, and snow-capped Mount Hood, which is the pride ami joy of Oregonians.

She enjoyed a cruise up the Columbia River to the shipyards, whpre from one to three ships are being launched each dfMrs Harrison saw ships from Russia docked in Portland harbors for repairs, on which the entire crews were Russian Rtid some of them were beautiful, Mrs. Harrison says. Mrs. Harrison reports that Portland and its citizenship are especially cordial to servicemen and their relatives.
