WANTS POSSESSION OF PUBLIC CLINIC HOUSE PURCHASER ASSERTS RENT REMAINS UNPAID. Justice Court Suit Brings Echo of City Hall Quarrel Over Maintenance, of Institution. Dr. H. W.

McKane of the U.S. publie health service land the Indiana board of health, together with Dr. 1 E. G. Freyermuth of the city health board, is defendant to a suit brought by James J.

Lingard to collect rent for and obtain possession of the house at 312 South, Lafayette boulevard, which house is occupied by the venereal disease clinic. The complaint, filed In the court of Justice: Joseph V. states that the property was leased for cline use Aug. 19, 1919. from John E.

Fisher, who, one year later: sold it to the plaintiff. The lease said to provide for the payment of $50 a month in advance as rent, and it is alleged that the October Installment has not been paid. of the building and $100 la demanded. During its first year of existence the venereal disease clinic was Ananced from the surplus left in the local War Chest. a fund from which was financed various war charities.

When this fund was exhausted the city was asked to become responsible for the continuation of the work and a quarrel between Mayor F. R. Carson and Dr. G. Freyermuth, secretary of the health board followed.

The strife was thought to have been settled by an arrangement whereby the city was to make an annual appropriation for the maintenance of the clinic and the publie sighed with relief over the supposed. of an unsavory squabble. The present suit, however, indicates that all has not been taken care of as nicely as has been thought. RECEIVES DIVORCE DECREE Husband Retains Custody of Three Children Deserted by Mother. M. E. Ladies' Aid Society Meets With Mrs. Rolland Miller. The M.

Bootlegging Case Remains on City Docket With Words "No Decision Given" Entered on Record. Sinister reminders of the grip the ring of local democratic, politicians has fastened on the South Bend city court were brought to life again this moraing when Joseph Voorde, Portage township assessor a plea of not guilty on the behalf of Dennis Kulcher who is charged with operating an illicit still with intent. Voorde aid not appear as counsel for the detense but it seemed to disinterested spectators, assumed the entire responsibility of the case. All of the evidence was not heard in the case and no definite disposition was made of it. Detective Sergeant Samuel Koczorowski, who had conducted the raid on Kulcher home at 2106 South Kemble avenue, appeared they in court to testify for the state.

He is known to have sat religiously through the entire session of the Zimmer-Dambacher case in the St. Joseph superior court last week. Voorde is at present out on bonds on a charge of operating an automobile while intoxicated. His arrest in that case followed an accident near Mishawaka in which several people were seriously Injured. City Judge Frank Gilmer, a democrat, at that time called a speciar session of court 'at 2 o'clock in the morning in order to prevent Voorde's commitment to jail for the nighti When Chief of Police Peter Kline heard of the attempt frustrate, his attempt to clean the city gers he smiled and said that he was going ahead with his campaign despite all the opposition any party could put up.
