Shareholders of Mid-America have authorized an increase in the capital stock to 602643 shares from 409967 shares and the par value has been reduced to $1 from $160 a share results reveals various reasons for the decrease in profits and procedures already have been instituted that will correct the trend and hopefully result in increased profits in the coming he said The company maintained a low retail price level in the face of rising operating costs To combat the trend the company is increasing prices sufficiently to offset higher labor costs Participation in audio components is a field in which immediate returns are small as compared with records but one which offers a greater potential for future profits he said Recco wrote off as an immediate expense the preopening and opening costs second of six articles on the new Social Security law By Martin Segal The new Social Security law meets a problem that has seriously affected ill and disabled widows not old enough to receive benefits For the first time since it was passed in 1935 the law provides for disability benefits for persons who are eligible on their (or earnings The new clause says that a disabled widow (or dependent widower) at least 50 years old will be eligible for benefits of from 50 per cent to 82 per cent of the deceased full benefit depending on age If a widow becomes entitled to this disability benefit at age 50 she will receive 50 per cent of her deceased benefit if she becomes disabled at age 55 she will receive 60 per cent of his benefit at age 60 she will be entitled to 71 per cent of his benefit at 62 82 per cent To get this benefit the disability must begin either before the death of the husband or within seven years after his death (It is assumed she will have had an opportunity to earn her own disability benefits if she becomes disabled after seven years) If the widow had been receiving benefits (as a mother because she had minor children to take care of) the seven years begins when her benefits run out (when the children reach age 18) The test of disability for widows and widowers is stricter than it is for workers A worker entitled to disability benefits if he is unable to perform work a widow las to be unable to perform any work However once the widow becomes entitled to disability benefits the less strict definition will be able to work a little so long as she capable of tial gainful One of the very important changes in the new estimated to affect 175000 children immediately changes the definition of a dependence on his mother Heretofore when a mother died her children received Social Security benefits only if she had worked for at least six quarters out of the last 13 before her death Under the new law child will be eligible for benefits based on his earnings if she has had at least one quarter of coverage for every year between 1950 and the year of death or every year from age 21 to the year of death Thus if a woman died this year at the age of 40 her minor children would be entitled to So cial Security benefits if she hac at least 18 quarters of coverage at any time in the past Eauit Gth 1813 197 Falrfd 1505 1 64c Frm BMu 1211 1211 Fed Grth 1504 1644
