11-1. Bus fares cut for jobless Continental Trailways passengers who are unemployed can ride the buses for half the regular fare beginning Monday. The fare discount was announced Tuesday here by terminal manager Robert E. Lee. Lee said the discount plan, known as the Opportunity Fare, is being conducted nationally in conjunction with the U.S.

Department of Labor. understand it is being done on a trial basis to help unemployed persons relocating from state to state," 1-ee explained. lie said the trial plan would last for two months. The discount fares will be good only for trips made between and Friday, the local Trailways official noted. Under the new plan, anyone showing proof he or she is collecting unemployment compensation qualifies for the 50 per cent discount on either one way or round-trip fares.

The cut-rate plan will be recognized any place on the nationwide Trailways system. Any unemployed person will be allowed to use the half-fare rates as often as he wants. Lee said the bus company will provide job banks at many of its terminals for traveling non -workers. San Antonio Is included as one of the job Information locations, he said. "We will jave a job table set up in the terminal lobby with information provided us by the Department of Labor concerning area jobs," Lee said.

The Trailways official revealed there is anticipation of increased passenger loads but not more than the company could handle. The bus firm's Opportunity Fare proposal could possibly hit some snags at the Interstate Commerce Commission. Trailways may have to get a waiver from the ICC because changes in fares must be announced 30 days before they are put into effect. However, Lee said the Trailways system is not seriously anticipating any block of the fare plan by the ICC. She is also a part-time employe of the Economic Opportunities Development Adult Manpower Program.

SNAC is a delegate agency primarily funded by EODC, the area's largest poverty fighting organization. EODC Exec. Dir. Edmundo Zaragoza said Tuesday Mrs. Sousa's election was against the EODC-SNAC contract rules.

"The election was illegal. Under our contract with SNAC no employe of EODC can serve on the SNAC board," Zaragoza explained. The director said the contractual agreement applies to both part-time and time employes. Mrs. Sousa has been working for EODC on a part-time basis for three weeks, Zaragoza revealed.

He said she would probably be asked to resign her new board post or her job. know Zaragoza also said he did not think SNAC Dir. Robert Tejeda knew Mrs. Sousa was working at EODC at the time of the election. 1 Tejeda could not be reached for comment late Meanwhile Ralph Garcia, runnerup in that SNAC board election, said he would challenge the election of Mrs.

Sousa. Garcia lost the election by an 8 to 7 vote. Henry B. Gonzales along with officials of the commission were on hand for ceremonies marking opening of the 175th such facility in Texas. The new canteen, which will serve snacks and light meals, is being operated by Mr. and Mrs. Rufina Acosta.

Acosta, legally blind, has progressed through the Business Enterprise Program to operator-manager of the canteen. The father of five children is a native of Laredo and has been a resident of San Antonio for the past 14 years. Prior to taking over operation of the federal building canteen, Acosta received eight weeks of training at the school in Austin. Acosta operates as an independent businessman. In addition to paying his ployes, a portion of his receipts are earmarked for equipment maintenance for the canteen which is furnished by the commission.

On hand to take part in the opening were Burt Risley, executive director of the commission from Austin; Grady Price of San Antonio, BEP counselor; Gene Hiesler of Fort Worth, chairman of the BEP state advisory board, and Hank Konvicka of Austin, state BEP supervisor. Records show that 10 female bandits were arrested and charged with robbery here in June and July, almost double the number in any entire year in the past. San Amonio Police Robbery Bureau head Lt. Virgil Robertson says that while armed robbery by women is apparently on the up- swing, not too many of them are getting away with it. Robertson says arrests are running from 80 to 85 per cent of all female robbers. The arrest rate fur male rubbers is only about 40 to 45 per cent.

He said the high arrest rate is because victims give highly accurate descriptions. Viet ms tend to remember more about the female robber, he said, because of the novelty of being held up by a woman.
