1612 BILLY FRANCES MONTGOMERY As the boys were watching the dancers, all of a sudden there was a great commotion among them and they ran scrambling in all directions, some trying to climb up on the musicians' stand, others to duck under branches to get outside, others jumped up on the benches--everyone something crazy, for someone, no one knew who, had set off a lot nigger chasers right in the midi die of the dancing floor, and of course as these fiery things chased the they tried to escape in all tions. The boys, too, were surprised, but not being afraid, sat still and enjoyed the fright and confusion of the others. until one hit Bobbie squarely on the chest and exploded in his face. After that they rolled under the boughs and came up outside. It was now quite dark, so they went back home and began setting off their expensive fireworks with Mike's help, for Mrs.

Banks and Mrs. Bromley' were giving a lawn fete that night on their adjoining lawns and had had a temporary stand up so everyone could get a good view of the fireworks as they were set off. And they certainly had a gorgeous display, for all the things had come straight from China and Japan, havbeen sent as a present to, Bobbie's mother, who had a brother ing in the diplomatic service in the far east.
