Retired from a career in banking and railroad commerce, Easton had experimented with stock farms along the Root River before coming to La Crosse in 1882. Easton built an extensive estate in the 1300 block of Cass Street, which was razed in 1953 to make way for the Bethany Lutheran Home on Cass. In 1890, Easton built Hill View Farm, where he bred hundreds of animals, particularly horses. Easton died in 1901 and is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery mausoleum.
