TCI subscribers in La Crosse and Winona, (where it's on cable channel 15) began receiving the new local station, WBCZ, when it went on the air Monday. The new station is an offshoot of WXOW, an ABC television affiliate in La Crosse.

WXOW has entered a local marketing agreement with TCI Cable to provide Warner Brothers programming on the new cable channel, said Chuck Roth, WXOW vice president and general manager. WXOW also hopes to enter an agreement with Marcus Cable, which serves Onalaska, Black River Falls, Sparta and Tomah, Roth said. "We hope that Marcus comes on line," Roth said. "At this point in time, they're looking at it corporately, and they have not yet While WXOW remains the local ABC affiliate, Roth said, "We are also in a sense joining with Warner Brothers, and we're partnering with local cable systems." Warner Brothers has been approaching stations about affiliating with what also is known as The WB Television Network and creating local marketing agreements with cable TV companies. A new division at WXOW will be responsible for selling advertising and ensuring that advertisements and promotional spots run when they are supposed to on the new Warner Brothers channel.

That probably will create three to four jobs, Roth said. Roth said Warner Brothers is the nation's fastest-growing television network and features such programs as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Dawson's Creek." It also offers the show "Friends" six days a week and "E.R." on weekends. Employees approve Woodman's merger Woodman's Food Market which operates seven food stores in Wisconsin, including one in La Crosse, said its 1,800 employees on Tuesday unanimously approved the merger of its retail operations with the Woodman family real estate corporation. By merging the two corporations, Woodman's Employee Stock Ownership Plan has become the owner of and controls all of the real estate and buildings from which Woodman's operates, creating a 100 percent employee-owned company. Woodman's is headquartered in Janesville, Wis.
