The Soiilihern Pacific, because of the competition, lias given Watsonville terminal rates on green and canned fruits, has enlarged depol grounds, and made a great reduction in freight rates, with belter train service and needed concessions to shippers. The old Board of Supervisors met In session Tuesday morning to adjournment. The minutes of all the meetings since the last regular meeting were read and approved. Chairman Collins then stated thai District Attorney Knight had notified him that the board could not perform any other business, and then stated that he wished to address a few words to the old board before himself, Mr. Ball and Mr. Esty resigned their seats.

He then went on to say: "I desire first of all to thank the clerk of this hoard, Harvey Miller, for the very efficient manner in which he has ton-ducted the affairs of his office. IL has been present at every meeting of the board, and his minutes have been kept with accuracy and neatness. And I also wish to thank Distrlot Attorney Knight for the able counsel he has given us, and the readiness with which he appeared to answer any question we might ask. "For all the members of the board I wish to thank them." Mr. Collins then told of the work of the board, of the improvements made In the roads, and the establish ment of the rural delivery, of the re placing of the wooden bridges throughout the county with stone and concrete ones.

Then last of all Mr. Collins told of the way the board had handled the county funds, so that in one more year Ihe county would be free Irom debt. He told of how many people appreciated the work the board had done, but added that there was always a great number of persons who could not be satisfied, no matter how many improvements were made no, how carefully the funds were handled. Then thanking the board for th honor conferred upon him by being chosen chairman, he brought the hammer down and declared the old board adjourned sine die. Supervisors Kinsley, Wyman and Hartman then took their seals.

Supervisor Llnscott was by a unanimous vote elected chairman of the board. E. Alzina was by a unanimous vote appointed janllor. Dr. F.

E. Morgan was appointed county physician. For superintendent of the county hospital S. E. Miller was re-appointed by a unanimous vote.

For game warden, C. A. Reed was re-appolnted. Then the chairman appointed tho following committees: Roads and Bridges, Wyman, Llnscott and Miller; Public Buildings, Miller, Hart-man and Llnscott; Printing, Hart-man, Kinsley and Miller; Hospital, Miller, Linscotit and Hartman: Outside Indigents, Kinsley, Wyman and Hartman; Franchise and Ordinance-Wyman, Kinsley and Hartman: Finance, Hartman, Llnscott and Miller. The rules governing the board were re-ad poted.

Wessendorf Staffler were granted the privilege for burying the indigent dead at $10 75 a burial. A communication from F. A. Hihn In relation to the proposed Summit. Glenwood and Felton road was read and referred to the committee on roads and bridges.

The Granite Rock Co. was granted an extension for sixty days on the Riverside Road contract. It was ordered that the warrant, for $12 issued to Mrs. Ella Lambrox for the support of three half orphan children be cancelled for tho reason that the mother of said minors has re-marrled. W. Johnston, George Dabelieh, J. J. C. Leonard, Ed LiUey and M.

Sharp appeared before the board and asked that the road leading from Santa Cruz to the county line be opened to automobiles. I'pon motion It was ordered th.it ordinance No. 189 be amended l.v striking out subdivision of Sec. 1, the same to take effect March 1st, 1905. This will open to automobiles the road leading from Soquel' to tho founty line via Hotel de Redwood.
