CLASSIFIED ADYMISlffllS. i AES A SELF-MADE MAN. Trlbate a Prtaad to tfaa Lata CeL O. J. BwUIecor.

A 8alt Lake City oorrespondent of the Chioago Inter Ooean writea aa tollowa eonearning tha lata OoL Hollistar, whose death waa notioed in tha Taiaun last I hare iutt returned from the funeral of Colonel O. J. Holliater, whoea sudden a a A ara a aeaan Mat trnamj morning naa airaaay been briany riouoad in tna Inter Oeaaa. Colonel Holliater baa been, ainoe the war, widely known by his writings in the Chicago and New Tork Tribana, his. connection with the prase of the west, his lite of Schuyler Colfax, and hie persist ent and untiring efforts to destroy the polygamy of tha Mormons, and his indefatigable industry in advancing the common interests of the territory.

To bis efforts, more than to any other person, are we indebted for the fine building belonging to the chamber of oom- me roe, end the First Congregational charch, by far the finest ohuroh edifice m. a 9 m. we city. Asesiass, ne nss oontnoaaaa to the beauty of the eity by the build- ing of a fine rttidenos in one of our faahionable localities. His writings hare bean rery roluminous, and to him is due the credit for mora of tha tarritory'a atatistioa than from any other eouroa.

He waa 57 yeare of age, of fine propor- tions and sxaellent appear snot genial in manners, affectionate in disposition, fondly deroted to hia wife, generous, kind, honest and thoroughly good. Hia wife waa a sister of the Hon. Schuyler Colfax; a lady of most exoelient quaituea, passionately attached to her husband. She has nerer abed a tear in her life, and in thia terrible bereavement laments her great and irreparable Iota with dry and burn ing eyes, making her auffaring rery much harder to bear, than if ana could give rent by a flood of teare, that kould relieve the grief oppressed brain. There waa a large funeral the aerrioea were conducted by bia pastor and most intimate friend, who a poke with brokan roioe, an eulogy of great beauty and force.

It ia one of those deatLe that demand more than a pasting notioa. A self-made man ot deep, strong and noble oharaoUr, natural abilities ot the highest order, qualitiea of mind and soul and heart and tender lore and fond af fection that call out our dearest emo tions, and rive, to his friends, a deeire to pay aoma tribute ot respect to bis green memory. Beliffion and nhiloaochr will gain foroe by his i liring example ot fidelity S7 -r i aj and honor, and reason grants to the dead a reward for the Rood men do in their liven. In the mysterious realm, ot which all ia ooc lecture and theory, renture to predict he will occupy an ad ranoad poaition. H.
