"I enjoy being involved and keeping busy," says Gloria Pralle, West Salem's 1986 Person of the ear. She received the award recently from the West Salem Business Association, the first woman so honored.

She got the award because of her various community activities during 1985. Last year, Pralle was a member of the board of the West Salem Historical Society, a secretary for the West Salem June Dairy Days celebration and a chaperone for the Miss West Salem Pageant. a representative of the economic development committee, she helps promote the community to industry. She also does public relations work for the Christ Lutheran Church evangelism committee. During her free time, Pralle is a Purple Buzzard, one of 11 women who get together to take part in such group activities as cross-country skiing and ice skating.

Pralle is a widow. She has two daughters: Lori, 24, and Jayne, 26. She has lived in West Salem for 25 years. For the past six years, she has been employed as a bookkeeper in the logging department of Webster Lumber Co. in Bangor.

Pralle says she plans to slow down her activities this year for health reasons, but not quit completely. She says she was surprised to receive the honor, which came with flowers and a plaque that now hangs on her living room wall.
