moiHor Boundaries decision days away OTTAWA (Staff) A decision on the validity of Saskatchewan's electoral boundaries is not expected before Tuesday, when the last intervener in the Supreme Court case will be heard. Ottawa, five provinces, the two territories, two municipalities and three other groups were represented as interveners when the high court heard arguments about the boundaries this week. A technological problem prevented Saskatoon lawyer Larry Kowalchuk, who represents the anti-poverty group Equal Justice for All, from making his arguments to the court by satellite feed. The Saskatchewan Court of Appeal had ruled the province's new boundaries map was unconstitutional because of the rules laid down for it violated the Charter of Rights. The Saskatchewan government appealed that ruling to the Supreme Court.

By Dave Yanko says people also are concerned Muskeg may net fish in the lake non-native residents know as "Sandy Lake." Bill Calder, head of the provincial Indian and Natives Affairs the RM's heritage site application came three years after Muskeg's initial claim on the land the claim has undergone three size adjustments during the ensuing years. Calder says the settlement process is now at the stage where the band, and federal and provincial governments meet with third-party interests such as the RM, to see what kind of agreement can be ironed out. "Local concerns are very important to to both the governments and band," he said. "We're always optimistic that, with reason and common sense on both sides, everyone's concerns can be met." The next meeting with third-party interests is scheduled for June. serves to be preserved, he said, including a graveyard, cellars and other community remains.

Glencross said the heritage request waa first made in 1987, but the RM has not received word on its query from the province. The claim is on Crown land. Having received the nod from federal and provincial authorities, the Muskeg band is now in the final stage of its "selection" of 1,273 acres of land bordering the north, east, south and southeast shores of lake. Band consultant Lester Lafond, who represents Muskeg in its land claim negotiations, says the band is now obliged to discuss its claim and resort development with the rural municipality before the deal is done. It filed its final land selection, a portion of a much larger entitlement, with Indian and Northern Affairs Canada on April 5.
