Born in Belgium, she immigrated to Canada in 1956 with her husband Roger, and young daughter Nicole, to start a new life in a country that she grew to love. She had first become interested in Canada at age 19, after speaking with young Canadian soldiers who liberated Brussels in WWII. She was proud to have travelled from coast to coast, and was often heard to say how lucky she felt to live in such a wonderful country. She made Ottawa her home and her daughter Chantal and her son Roger were both born here. From raising her family in Ottawa, to rearing beef cattle at a farm near Winchester, she never shied from a new challenge.

She loved all animals and cared for numerous family pets over the years. Throughout her life, she brought a capable hand and an artist's eye to her home, garden and hobbies. In retirement, she returned to a childhood interest in art and started to draw and paint. She drew inspiration from nature, both in her gardens and in Florida, where she spent many happy winters. Although she was modest about her art, she was a talented watercolour artist and continued to paint late into her life.

She leaves behind her son, Roger, her two daughters, Nicole (Richard) and Chantal (Marc), her grandchildren Jason (Eleanor), Jeffrey (Brandy), Robert (Amelie), and Sarah (Patrick), and great-grandchildren Isabelle, Benedict, Regan, Riley, Luke and Owen. Hers was a life well lived; she will be sorely missed but remembered forever by those who loved her. A Celebration of Roberte's Life will be held at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway), Ottawa, on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society.
