MAJOR LOVE taken them some time to do it, but Major Love have finally gotten around to celebrating the release of their self-titled debut. Granted, all involved in about a zillion separate projects that keep the various members (Colleen Brown, members of Scenic Route to Alaska, Jesse Northey of Jesse the Dandelions, Elijah Abrams, and Aaron Goldstein) hopping across Canada, but the CBC has certainly embraced the band, especially the first two singles, So Good and Tear It Down. a special bunch, and a rare occasion when they can get together, so make sure not to miss this one. When: Thursday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m.

Admission: $13 to $20, available at the door or in advance from Yeglive Info: yeglive.ca EMBALMERS It might be a dark comedy to us, but for the two biochemists given the job of preserving the body of former Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin upon his death in 1924, the task was a little frightening. Embalmers follows the efforts of Boris Zbarsky and Vladimir Vorobiov as they try and find a way to keep physical remains intact for viewing in Red Square, something you can still see on occasion if you happen to be in Moscow on the right day. Alexander Donovan directs from Vern script, with local actor, director, and voice coach Doug Mertz playing the soon-to-be preserved corpse of Lenin. When: Thursday, Oct.

11 to Saturday, Oct. 20. Performances are at 7:30 p.m., with extra 12:30 p.m. matinee added on Thursday, Oct. 18.

Forbidden Dimension are not only heading up to Edmonton to celebrate three decades as a going concern, also got some new merch in the form of their latest record, Muchas Moscas, which has been fused with 13 Bloody Greats Live for a package that will enthrall fans both old and new. Opening are The Confusionaires and Paul James Coutts Cowls.

The two-day shindig, which kicks off on Friday night, winds up with a gala night of music videos, commercials, short films, VR videos, web series, and trailers on Saturday night, complete with red carpet and musical entertainment.

singer-songwriter Rob Malowany and associates, show off their artistic process in the documentary Bleeding Daylight, screening at Strathearn Community Hall on Saturday night. The documentary highlights Malowany in the underground arts performance space Merge, where the former Edmontonian works to connect his alt-country roots with improvisational techniques. Malowany will be on hand at the screening for a casual along with an opening musical performance by Stew Kirkwood. When: Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Admission: $12, available at the door or in advance from the Parkland website Info: parklandmusicproject. bandcamp.com THE MOSQUERS Entertainment and education are both focuses behind The Mosquers Film Festival, taking place at the Winspear this Saturday night. Comedian Omar Regan hosts the annual screening and awards night, which features films from around the world showcasing diverse Muslim experiences and talents. Brother Ali and spoken word poet Amir Sulaiman are among the entertainment for the evening; check the website for more info.

Expect tasty beverages and arcade fun while celebrating local designers, boutiques, hair stylists, makeup artists and more, plus door prizes. Check the Eventbrite page for more info.

Admission: $10 to $15, available from Eventbrite Info: eventbrite.ca JIM BYRNES seen him on television in a variety of roles, including stints in Highlander, Wise Guy and Supernatural, but Jim Byrnes is probably most acclaimed as a musician. The Vancouver-based blues guitarist has been a mainstay over at Black Hen records, releasing a number of critically lauded albums and picking up armloads of awards; last year he continued the streak with Long Hot Summer Days, continuing his collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Steve Dawson for yet another satisfying set of soulful blues.

The fourth year of the festival sees the event moved to St. Albert Place, where plenty of space to check out the video game zone, escape room, collectible zone, food trucks, and more. Admission to the site is free, but the performance by the Frank Wolf Follies in the Arden Theatre is a ticketed event. When: Saturday, Oct. 13, 11 a.m.
