Deaths 1000 Verla Jean Forsyth After a three year struggle with cancer, Verla passed away June 26, 2003 at her home, supported by her family and devoted caregivers. Verla was predeceased by her mother and father, Edith and Oliver Forsyth; brother, Jack, and sister, Marie. She is survived by her brothers, Ted (Shirley) of Kelowna, BC, Keith (Edna) of Saskatoon; sister, Dorothy (Lloyd) Bygrave of Richmond, BC; and her many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored.

She will be sorely missed by her aunts. Mae O'Brien of Saskatoon and Pearl Gillie of Victoria; uncle, Leslie of Brandon, MB; many cousins; as well as her dear friend, Olive Swerhone and family. Verla was born in Asquith, SK and attended Asquith School. She completed her A.T.C.M. Degree in piano and went on the attend the Saskatoon Normal School for teacher training.

She joined the Saskatoon Public School staff in 1943 and taught at three elementary schools. She loved working with children, especially in music and guided her students to great achievements in choral music, bell ringing and band and musical productions. In 1960 she became the Music Consultant for the Saskatoon Public School Board and created and implemented one of the finest music programs in Canada, introducing the Kodaly and Orff method teaching. She also applied her talents guiding, encouraging and supporting music teachers, Her commitment and dedication to music a a the public school system was outstanding. She was instrumental in the creation of the Saskatchewan Music Educators Association and served on many committees relating to music festivals and carol festivals.

She obtained her Bachelor of Education with Honors. She retired from her chosen career in 1985. Musical patrons in Saskatoon enjoyed many piano performances and solo accompaniments which she presented during her career. Her community activities included a long association with the Kiwanis Club of Saskatoon relating to the annual Christmas Carol Festival, which she coordinated. They honored her with I the establishment of scholarships awarded annually to participants in the Saskatoon Music Festival in the name of the Kiwanis Club of Saskatoon and Verla Jean Forsyth.

Her musical talents extended to church music. She was a long-time member of the choir at the former Grace United Church and held the position of director at Grosvenor Park United Church for 16 years. She was a woman of great faith and was devoted to her church. Grace-Westminster United Church. Verla was a warm, loving, caring, family oriented person.

She was selfless and her generosity exceeded all boundaries. Her positive spirit and infinite courage helped to sustain her over the past three years. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations as expressions of sympathy made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Grace-Westminster United Church, 505-10th Street East, Saskatoon, SK on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Daryl Woods officiating.

Family and friends are welcomed for a public viewing and visitation on Wednesday, July 2. from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Saskatoon, SK. Special thanks to the Palliative Care Nurses, her caregivers, Isabel Pendleton and friends, the doctors and staff at the Cancer Clinic and City Hospital, and her many friends who supported her throughout her illness.

Ken was born on a farm near Wynyard on February 18, 1929. The family moved to Saskatoon when Ken entered the University of Saskatchewan, where he graduated with a B.A. in Math and Physics. He joined the R.C.A.F. and received his wings and commission as a pilot in 1950 and flew for 20 years on and Transport Squadrons, travelling all over the world.

Ken retired in 1972, following a heart attack, and the family moved to Tolaga Bay, New Zealand, returning to Saskatoon in 1981. Ken and Del loved the outdoors and had many happy camping and fishing trips in northern Saskatchewan and at their cottage at Hitchcock Bay on Diefenbaker Lake. They wintered in Barra de Navidad, Mexico for 20 years. Ken taught Bridge and was a Life Master Bridge player and studied and spoke Spanish fluently. He was a well read and intellectual to whom history, world affairs and conservation of Canada's resources and natural beauty were most important.

Call 653-2100 Deaths BROWN Gordon MacKellar Brown passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27,2003 at his Saskatoon home after a brief, but intense struggle with cancer.

He is survived by Marion, his wife and best friend of 55 years; three sons and their families, Robert (Jean Hansen) and their children, Emily and Katherine of Edmonton, Cameron (Melinda Mongovius) and their children, Kristen and Daniel of Saskatoon, SK, and Scott of Whitehorse, YT; sister, Lorena K. (Grant) Holmgren of Comex, BC. Gordon was predeceased by his mother, Emily L. (MacKellar) in 1926: his father, Pearson C. in 1972; an infant sister, Myrna in 1925; and his older brother, Mervin in 1967; also his stepmother, Sally E.

(McKonkey) Brown 1996. Gordon was born Coldstream, ON in 1926, educated in Estevan, SK and served short stints in the RCAF and the Canadian Army in 1944 and 1945. He married Marion in 1948 while still in university, graduating with his Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy in 1949. Upon graduation, he began working at Lorne Avenue Drug for Bob Millar in Saskatoon till 1964, when he purchased the store and operated the business till his retirement in 1993. After retiring, Gordon and Marion spent most of their summers at the family cottage in Cypress Hills Provincial Park.

He liked to golf, but quickly realized he would never make it to the "big He enjoyed singing and was part of a couple groups that entertained at long term care homes and senior's residences. Gordon also volunteered much of his time over the last ten years to the Saskatoon Food Bank. He was an active member of Bethel United Church and Victory Lodge No. 144 and served as Master in 1993. Church on Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Fr. Murray Kuemper. Interment will follow at St.

Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations directed to either the St. Mary's Villa Foundation or to the St. Elizabeth's Hospital Foundation will be gratefully received by the family.
