MEETING OF CITY TRUSTEES Written Acceptance of College Street Work Received The Purchase of the Porter Lot for a Waterworks Plant Ratified by a Bare Majority HEATED TALK IN BBODERICK Heard at Meeting to Discuss Levee Improvement Valentine Hauser, Who Recently Resigned as Trustee, Complains of Unfair Tioitment MRS. COLEMAN'S BEQUESTS CdllFOR 1U AT THE A meeting of the city trustees was held Monday evening. The most important matter considered was the presentation of the writ ton acceptance ot City Engineer Perry Campbell of the macadam work on south College street by the contractors. A resolution of intention to accept the same was prepared and ordered published lor five days and Monday evening, November 2Sth, was fixed as the time for hearing objections, if any, to the acceptance ai the work. It was ordered that Mr.

Raymond be hired for a period of three months at a per diem of $2.50 to caro for south College street. was also ordered tliat Oscar Scott be employed for general 'street, work at per month. Arc lights were ordered to be installed on First street and nl the intersection of College and Court streets. City Marshal Clary was instructed to have a certain section of sidewalk on south First repaired. The marshal was also ordered to put a heating stuve in the city jail.

On the 14th instant the trustees held a meeting at which it was deckled to purchase of A. D. Porter a lot on Grand aveuuo as a site for an auxiliary waterworks plant. There beiug some doubt as to the legality of the meeting, the matter was brought up again Monday night. Trustee Muegge and White wanted to purchase the Cranston lot but the order to purchase the Porter lot was ratified by the votes of Mayor Mitchell and Trustees Boots and Cm-sou.

A FAREWELL PARTY Tendered the Dyas Family Prior to Bemoval to Santa Ci uz Mrs. E. J. Dyas left for Santa Cruz this morning. She was accompanied by her two daughters, Ethel and Elene, who will make their future home in Sania Cruz.

They were given a farewell party by their schoolmates Monday evening. Games and other amusements wbiled the happy hours away. Nice refreshments were served. Those present were: Tillie Malpiede, Ethel Dyas, Hazel Scott, Lucille Cramer, Ethel Powers, Jenebelle Powers, Ucssie Childers, Eunice Eldridge, Carrie Hadsall, Mildred Hadaall, Edith Barker, Esther Lawsou, tsernice Jacobs, Mabel Childers, Ethel GJfflders, Katie Nclk. Elizabeth Wiugblade, Walker Apperson, George Apperson, Philip Apperson, Geo.

Mitchell, Lester Johnston. Harold Rehmke, Elmer Poffenberger, John Call, Floyd Scott, Norman Scott, Everett Howard, Harold Holt, Harold Hughs, Borden Woods and Erviu Eicrs. The desire to thresh out several points in connection with the proposed improvement ol tha levee on the Yolo from Rocky I'oinl down, Monday night, called out a big crowd of taxpayers at a mass meeting held in the town hall in Hroderick and hot debates resulted. The meeting gave a few disgruntled taxpayers, who oppose the action taken by the trustees in voting $3000 for lovee improvements, an opportunity to air their views. In the end, a better understanding was reached between the factions, and the action ot tho trustees was ratified.

The trouble was found to have arisen chiotly from the LndofLuilo manner in whi'ch the secretary of the board of trustees had reported the action of that body Mayu'ard Heed called the meeting to order and J. L. Clitton was chosen to preside as chairman. Trustees W. Stockton.

D. T. Jenkins, and Hayward Reed explained the action, stating that there was no intention of making misstatement ol facts as to the manner in which the money was to he handled. The trustees had been of secrecy iu the matter explained that their minutes were always open to the public. Valentine Hauser, trustee-elect, who recently resigned from the board, explained that his resignation was due to the tact that he was regarded by the majority of the board as a figureboac and not entitled to serious consideration.

He as bitter in his references to the other trustees on this account Tile question as to whether Haywarc Reed, appointed to till the vacancy created by i-Iauser's resignation, was eligible to the position was taken up and Attorney Chauiicey H. Dunn of Sacramento explained that Heed was eligible. The fact that he was not a resident of the district was brought up but Dunn showed that he was qualified by reason of being a property owner. Considerable wrangling over tlie levee improvement propositon followed and finally, upon motion of William Wilson, the action of the trustees in voting JliOOO at the rale of oil the $100 valuation, was ratified. The fact that in the minutes of the board of trustees ot the was voted for attorneys' fees and for miscellaneous expenses, caused some opposition to the levee improvement vote, but Atiorney L.

M. Sbeely, law-' ycr fur the district, explained that probably not so grout a sum need be expended lor fees, but that the was merely to cover possible emergencies in that line. The same was true of the for miscellaneous expenses. The misconception was due to the manner in which the matter was presented by the secretary of the board of Woodland People Among Beneficiaries of Large Fortune From the Bee we learn that Mrs. Colcman, formerly of tills Ity, left a will in which she disposed if an estate valued at J200.000.
