London, Jan. G. Schuster, the new governor of the Union hank of London, yesterday said that the prevailing impression that the large increase in the stock of gold in London was due to Increased production was only partially true. It waa from the United States, he added, chiefly, (hat the increase waa obtained. The imports from the United States, continued Mr.

But, in his opinion, the troubles would not continue much longer, and when these difficulties weie oveicome the tide might turn the current mto the opposite direction, and It might set in with great rapidity and force. The feeling on this question was very pronounced. The discussion as to Mexican cattle, which was quite spirited, tended to show that stockmen do not fear competition from that quarter.

A resolution waa unanimously adopted pledging the association to support the agricultural department in aU its quarantine regulations. Mayor Thompson, who is always Democratic, says: Senator Cockrell to aU right as a man, but as a politician he belongs to the past, lie to not of the New Missouri, neither can he be. By nature, training and long practice he holds his place among those who acted in former times. The Democrats will make a mistake if they fail to name as a candidate for governor a man who belongs to this day and generation and to willing to face the future. We want no political antedeluviaii fur a candidate, but a progressive mau. He should be in active sympathy with all the new and better impulses which now animate the people of the slate.

Missouri Is rapidly going to the front and the Democrats cannot afford to block her way by throwing Senator Cockrell aciosa her path. DpiMttiftl Bishop Rilir Suspended. New Tork, Jan. 16 Notice of the suspension of the Kt. Rev.

Ho was natuially keen, sensitive and impressionable; hi mind worked quickly, for he had read a great deal and held his reading at command. His thought conrermd itself first of all with the attitude these people assumed toward him. It via perf4ctjy evident that they regarded him a a creature of inferior sort. He was their servant. Jt made him turn hot to think how terribly this contrasted with the flambuoyant phraseology of his graduating oration.

He came back for relief to the face of the girt who looked at him without scorn. The impression she made on him wa one of daintiness and light, Her eager face and her sweet voice, almost childish in it thin quality appealed to him with singular force. She was strange to him, in accent and like; she was good and sweet, he felt sure of that, but she seemed so far away In her manner of thought. He wished he had been dressed a little better; his old hat troubled him especially. The girls he had known, even the daintiest of them, could drive horses and were not afraid of cows.

Their way of talking was generally direct and candid, or had those familiar inflections which were alien to him. Was she a girt? Botnetfmes she seemed a woman when her face sobered a moment-then again she seemed a child. It was this change of expresskn that bewildered and fasrinaied him. Then her lips were so scarlet and her level brown eyebrows wavered about so beautifully. Sometimes one would arch and the other remain quiet; this rave a wonderful look of brightness and roguishness to her face.

He came at last to the strangest thing of aU; she had looked at him every time he spoke, a tf she were surprised at finding herself unable to understand him. He worked tt all out at tostc They all looked upon him as belonging to the American peasantry; he belonged to a tower world, a world of service.
