Aim mmii id RICHERT It is with great sadness the family announces the untimely passing of Elmer John Richer! age 72, of Saskatoon, Elmer passed away on Friday, February 28, 2003, surrounded by his loving family. A Funeral Service will be held from Nutana Park Mennonite Church. 1 701 Ruth Street East, Saskatoon on Wednesday, March 5. 2003 at 1 1 :00 a.m. He leaves to mourn his wife of nearly 50 years.

Florence, son Murray (fiancee Bonnie), daughters Janice (Arnie) Arnott, Jillian, Lindsay, and Derek of Saskatoon, Audrey (Ron) Vierling of Moose Jaw. and Joylyn (David) Seeley, Matt and Anne of Seattle, WA, He also leaves a sister, Selma (Henry) Gliege of Saskatoon, brother George (Pearl) of Swift Current, sister-in-law Roberta Richert of Saskatoon, as well as Florence's sister Alice (Henry) Zacharias of Bradwell, and 1 3 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Abram and Mathilda, brother Ruben, sister-in-law Marion Richert, a son in infancy, and granddaughter Kimberly Arnott. Elmer loved his family dearly, and cherished the time spent together, especially "Christmas in August" at Fairmont Hot Springs almost every year since 1989. Elmer was an avid tennis player, winning many trophies between 1 9ti i and 1992.

He also played in the Senior Olympics in Palm Springs, where he and Florence spent many pleasant winter months. Even in recent years when Parkinson symptoms made it difficult, his good friend Jim Seamer continued to faithfully pick him up and take him out to the tennis court to hit a few balls. Elmer came from a family of educators, and dedicated his entire working life to the field of education. He obtained his Teachers Certificate from the Saskatoon Normal School in 1 950 and secured his first teaching job in a one room rural school near Waldheim. Elmer completed his B.Ed (with distinction) from the University of Saskatchewan In 1954 and started teaching at Rosthern Junior College.

He served as teacher, Academic Principal and President of RJC for 15 years, except for a one year sabbatical In 1965 to study Theology and Counselling in Elkhart, Indiana. Having been involved in many sports while growing up, Elmer continued to espouse the importance of athletics at RJC, serving as the hockey coach. Even though he resigned in 1 970, his association and connection with the school and his former students has never ended. It is estimated that close to one thousand students graduated from RJC during Elmer's time there. After leaving RJC.

Elmer returned to the UofS to pursue post-graduate studies, completing his Masters of Education in Educational Psychology in 1 975. While in the process of completing his Masters. Elmer began employment with the Government of Saskatchewan as an Educational Psychologist In Northern and Western Saskatchewan. During this time he also took a 10 month leave of absence to consult with the Department of Education in the Northwest Territories to assist them in the development of special education resources. From 1978 until his retirement in 1993, Elmer held the position of Regional Coordinator of Special Education for the Government of Saskatchewan.

During this 1 5 year period he worked in four regional offices throughout the Province as well as filling in as the acting Director of the Department of Education, Special Education Branch. Throughout his career. Elmer was involved in numerous initiatives and innovations with respect to education for gifted, hearing impaired, and other special needs students. His commitment and dedication to his chosen career was also evident from his involvement In numerous committees and professional organizations, Including the Council for Exceptional Children, the Saskatchewan and Canadian Associations for the Mentally Retarded, the Advisory Committee on the Education of Gifted Learners, the Psvcholoaical Association of Saskatchewan, outlook Funeral Chapel the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Research in Child Development, and the baskatcnewan bpeciai Olympics society, timer was also very involved in Church School policy development, and served on various Provincial, Canadian, and North American Commissions for the Mennonite Church. Elrr er will be dearly missed by family, friends, former colleagues, tennis partners, and everyone who had 'he good fortune of crossing his path on a personal or professional level.

SUMMACH Harold William Summach, 88, of Saskatoon passed away on March 2, after a brief illness. His devoted wife Flo and many of his loved ones, including his cherished great-granddaughters, felt blessed to share the final peaceful hours of his life.

Born in 1914 in the Tregarva, SK area, he was the third oldest in a family of six brothers and two sisters. Left to mourn are his wife, Flo: his stepdaughter, Maureen McPherson (Bob): his beloved granddaughters Alexis and lona (Chris Rodman) McPherson and the joys of his heart, great-granddaughters Ashley and Emma. Also very close to Harold's heart was Peggy Antonichuk (Rod) and her children, David and Julia Kerr. He is also survived by his brothers Cecil and Mervin (Lynn), sisters-in-law, Florence Summach. Larre Lipsett, Mollie Arnold and Ruth Miller: brothers-in-law.

Harold was predeceased by his parents, Mary and William: brothers Lester, Bob, and Ted Summach: sisters Elaine Green and Marietta Campbell: sisters-in-law Mary Summach, Esther Summach, Elaine Summach and Theresa Summach: brothers-in-law Bill Green, Robert Lipsett, Stan Arnold, and Gary Miller: nephews Ken and Howard Green and Trent Summach: and nieces Lila Green, Joyce Ramsay, and Sheridene Summach. After operating the family farm in the Asqulth area for a number of years, Harold Joined Lipsett Footwear in Saskatoon, marrying Flo in 1 968. Together they operated the family business for over thirty years, joined for the last twenty-two years by their son-in-law. Bob.

A successful farmer and businessman, a devout and generous Christian, Harold was deeply devoted to his entire family. Throughout his life he was a faithful and active supporter of the Baptist Church. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist in Saskatoon where he will be remembered by the congregation. During his years of Involvement with the store and the church, he made many friends and acquaintances. He will be missed.

The family would like to thank the Royal University Hospital staff for their devoted care. The warm support of Dr. Sheila Harding was especially appreciated. A public visitation for family and friends will take place at the Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338 4th Avenue North, on Wednesday. March 5 from 7 to 9 p.m.

A service of remembrance will be held at Emmanual Baptist Church, on Thursday, March 6, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. led by Pastor Cal Malena. Memorial donations in Harold's memory may be made to Emmanual Baptist Church, 1636 Acadia Drive. Saskatoon. S7H 5H7.

And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near; And never, never be afraid to die; For I am waiting for you, in the sky. HILLCOX Marjorie passed away at home February 25, 2003 at the age of 76.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Clarence and her half sister and several brothers. She Is survived by three children. Jack of SAPIEHA John M. of Saskatoon. SK passed away at Sunnyside Nursing Home on Monday.

Edmonton, Arthur of Saskatoon and Brenda of DITTMER Rose Maurine 1916-2003 Rose Maurine Dittmer (nee Swanson) of Cal- 8ary, passed away peacefully at the Carewest rossbow Nursing Home on Tuesday.

February 4, 2003 at the age of 86 years, surrounded by her loving family. The many people who enjoyed Maurine throughout her life will remember her for her strength, wisdom and immense love, generosity and grace. Maurine is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law. Bill and Elizabeth Dittmer. and Bob and Helen Dittmer, as well as five grandchildren, Lynn Dittmer, Darren Dittmer, and his wife Ellen Le-ong.

Brian Dittmer, and his wife Jackie Dittmer, Mark Dittmer, Scott Dittmer, and a great granddaughter, Emily Leong Dittmer. Maurine was born on November 7, 1916 on a tarm at Dun-durn, SK. Her home was in Dundurn until she left to work as a stenographer frn i i 939 in Regina. SK. She married Gordon Dittmer on April 26, 1939 and they farmed at Dundurn and Clavet until 1 969 when ft iey retired and moved to Saskatoon, SK.

After Gordon died in 1993. she continued to live in Saskatoon until December 2000 when she moved to Calgary to be with her immediate family, where she enjoyed her past two years at Canyon Meadows Retirement Residence. A "Celebration of Life' service for Maurine, to be held in Saskatoon on Saturday March 8th, 2003 1 1:30 a m. in the reception room at HILLCREST FUNERAL HOME (east on 8th Street turn right before the railway tracks). Arrangements are in care of David J.

Schurr (477-4400). Edmonton, grandson Marcus Hillcox of Edmonton, who was dearly loved by his grandmother, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marjorie married Clarence in 1949; thev had three children. She attended the School HAFNER The death of Mrs. Loretta (nee Krentz) Hafner, age 88 years, of St.

Mary's Villa. Humboldt, (and formerly of Bruno) occurred at her residence on Sunday. March 2, 2003. Loretta will be lovingly remembered by three children, Alvera (Aiphonse) Thiel. Rose-Marie Wei-man, and Alvin (Rosaline) Hafner, all of Bruno; and by four giandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

The Prayer Service for Loretta will be held at St. Bruno R.C Church. Bruno, on Tuesday, March 4 2003, at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered from St. Bruno R.C.

Church on Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Interment will follow at St. Bruno R.C.

She worked as a dry cleaner, at The StarPhoenix, at ihe University of Saskatchewan, and was also a landlord.

Marjorie was known for her beautiful smile and her sense of humour by the deaf community and those that knew her. She was known to knit endlessly for her family and friends. At her request there will be no Funeral service. Cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made to Sask Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, 3 -51 1 1st Ave.
