For further information contact the editor at 664-8315. Deaths 1000 STARK, James It is with sorrow and loving memory that we announce the passing of James Lumsden Stark on Wednesday, May 14,2003. Dad was born April 28, 1914 in Calgary and his childhood was spent in British Columbia. He is survived by his loving sons, Jamie (Delia and James) and lan (Hazel- Ann) and grandchildren Joshua, Cassie and Maia; and one brother, Joseph of Courtney, BC. Jim was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Frances in 1998; and his parents, James and Christina; and his brother, Bert.

Always interested in sports, Jim played hockey, baseball and lacrosse and later became an avid golfer and curler. Jim joined the RCAF in 1941 and was quietly proud of having flown thirty-five combat missions over Europe and had signed up to fight in the Pacific when the war ended, he then joined the C.P.R. In 1950 he married Frances Bushe of Saskatoon and then began his 53 year career as an insurance agent. He owned and operated Seymour E. Bushe Sons agency for many years.

He retired in December 2002 with Butler Byers Insurance Ltd. Jim was known for his honesty in all business dealings. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed helping his many clients friends. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch Elk's Lodge and 47-year member of the Saskatoon Cosmopolitan Club. many years he coached and managed youngsters in hockey under the City Playground League.

He also was very involved in minor baseball both as coach and manager as well as serving as President of The Saskatoon Baseball Association. He also served several terms as Commissioner of The Saskatchewan Baseball Association. He was a member of the Hub City Curling Rink and Granite Curling Club and founding member of The Moon Lake Golf and Country Club. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 20th at 2:00 p.m. at St.

John's Anglican Cathedral. Cremation to follow with internment at St. John's Columbarium at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to McKagues Funeral Chapel 664-3131. SLYWKA The passing of Mr.

May 15, 2003 with family at her side. Joyce is survived by her son, Brian (Betty) McManus of Regina, SK; daughter-inlaw, Rose Kleemola of Oftawa, ON; grandsons. Kent (Carmen), Mardy (Josee), Jody, Devin and great-granddaughters, Noa and Mackenzie.

She is also survived by her sister, Marj Epp of Langham; sister-in-law. Doris Taylor of Saskatoon; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Joyce predeceased by her husband, Leonard (1976); her son, Herb (1986); her parents and three brothers, Willy, John and Maurice. Joyce was born in her grandparents home at Avonlea, SK and was raised near Truax. She attended Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing, Victoria, BC.

She nursed in Eston, SK where she met her husband, Leonard and moved to Saskatoon where she worked also at all three city hospitals. She also served as a special duty nurse with great compassion. Joyce's greatest gift was her concern for others. Joyce ws very active with the 2nd St. United Church where she was the longest serving member.

She was a faithful member of the choir, U.C.W. and served on church session and taught Sunday School. She was also a lifetime member of the W.C.T.U. Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at 2nd St.

United Church with Rev. Heather Funk officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the 2nd St. United Church Memorial Fund (213-2nd St. East, Saskatoon, SK, S7H 1N5) or to the Canadian Cancer Society (438-2nd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2C3).

Arrangements are entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME, 244-5577. DUFF Barbara Duff passed away on May 15, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. Barb was born in Nicholson, Ontario and eventually moved to Pembroke, Ontario. After marrying Reg who was in the RCMP, they transferred to many locations including Ottawa and St. John's NFLD.

Barb, Reg and two sons Michael and Stephen, moved to Prince Albert in 1960. Barb was a well know figure at the Sears store where she worked in catalogue sales. They lived in PA until Reg's retirement from the RCMP in 1966. They spent a few years La Ronge where Reg managed North Sask Electric and Barb became well known to all northern residents while working at the La Ronge Drug Store. They later returned to PA.

She was predeceased by her husband, Reg in 1977. After a short stay on the West coast, Barb returned to her favourite, Saskatchewan and lived in Saskatoon. She is survived by her son, Michael and wife Isabelle and grandchildren, Erin and Sean in Squamish, BC; son, Stephen and wife Brenda and three grandchildren. Shane, Adam and Amanda in Edmonton, Alberta; brother, Bob and wife Lois in Pembroke, Ontario; brother, Bill and wife Dorothy in London, Ontario; and sister, Betty and husband Ray in Winnipeg, MB. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and about a million friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east end of 8th turn right before the railway tracks). JOHNSON The death of Audrey Irene Johnson, age 77 years of Asquith, SK occurred in the early morning of Thursday, May 15, 2003 at Parkridge Centre. Audrey was born July 5, 1925 to Allan and Emma Burwell at a farm in the Asquith district. She attended school at Polar Cresent.

She married Ralph Johnson in 1948 and together they raised four children on the farm and later retired to the town of Asquith. Audrey was very active in her community ing a member of many organizations, including the Royal Purple, the Asquith School Board and United Church. She also volunteered for many charitable organizations such as the I MS Society and the Terry Fox Walk for Cancer. Audrey enjoyed her life and time spent with family and friends, especially those moments spent playing cards or just having coffee. She will be sadly missed by all those whose life she touched.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1991; sister; Gladys Lake; and brother, Mel Burwell. leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Carol Johnson (Keith Flower) of Calgary. AB; Clark (Connie) of Grandora, SK and their sons, Aaron (Jenn) of Saskatoon and Kristan (Kim) of Asquith, SK; Maxine (Robert) Nagourney of Beach, CA and their sons, Alex and Adam, Blake (Marnie) of Weyburn, SK and their daughters, Karly and Alesha; brother, Clark (Gladys) Burwell; sister-in-law, Evelyn Fairbrother; brotherin-law, Lloyd (Marion) Johnson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to PARK MELSTED Anna Elizabeth (nee Teichreb) passed away peacefully in Wynyard on May 15 at the age of 101. Anna was by her husband, Leo (1992): by daughter-inlaw, Doris (1989); and grandson, Bruce (1998).

Those left cherish her memory are her son, Ken, and his wife Margaret, of Wynyard; granddaughter, Patricia and husband Serge Chabot of Christopher Lake; Patricia's children, Gordon, Sheldon and Lyndon Morrison and Gordon's son Taylor; and granddaughter-in-law. Rosanna and her husband John Gartley of Edmon, PA, and Rosanna's children, Ryan and his wife Christine Melted, Graham, Raeanne and Adrienne Melted. Anna was known and loved for her busy hands and generous She loved everything about home and family, taking pride in housekeeping, gardening, and keeping those she loved well fed and happy. Friends and family were often surprised by a freshly baked loaf of bread or pie left on their doorstep. She continued her independent lifestyle until deteriorating health made it necessary to call "Golden Acres" nursing home her home eight years ago.

She was a Life Member of the Lodge and also the Day Alliance Ladies Aid and had enjoyed her association with them for many years.
