BELL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Millie Bell on Thursday, December 28, 1995 at 82 years of age. Mom was born on May 15, 1913 in the Wynyard, SK district but spent most of her life in Saskatoon.

Her early fife involved a brief teaching career In rural Saskatchewan as well as Saskatoon. Above all mom was a people person, placing great value on all of her many fnends from the early days with the onginal Mer-Uri Motors staff through her happiest days at Waskesiu Lake and lastly, to her days of contentment sharing valued friendships with the bridge group, brunch group and caring neighbors. Mom placed her highest priorities on her family with special love for her three grandsons on whom the sun rose and set Millie Bell is survived by her two sons, Dick (Caryl) and Ron (Leslie) Bell; her three grandsons (Curtis, Rich, Craig); her brothers, Douglas (Florence) Peterson, Milton (Barbara) Peterson; and her sisters, Aldis (Bud) Carson, Donna (Jack) Devine and Rene Ford; as well as numerous nieces and nephews on both the Peterson and Bell sides of the family. She was predeceased by her husband, J.G. (Bus) Bell in 1979; and her parents, Benedict (Umpa) and Ranka (lima) Peterson; as well as her brothers, Ben Peterson, Bill Peterson; and her sisters, Thalia Truscott and Edith Goble.

Mom will always be remembered for her unfailing good sense of humor, her determination to make life a little better for all those she encountered and her dedication to her family and many friends. She made a significant impression on all those she associated with and will leave behind many good memories and stories for all of us to cherish. Our sincere thanks to everyone who made a contribution to sustain Mom's active and happy life. At her request, burial is by cremation. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to Mom's favorite local organization, The Saskatoon Family YMCA, 25 22nd Street East, Saskatoon, SK, where she was a Hl-Y leader, as well as a member for many years or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME and Prairie View mv 1 -a chance. If East has the king of diamonds (and less than five diamonds) or if diamonds divide 3-3, there is no problem. How about the most probable division in diamonds: 4-2? There is an extra chance here. Instead of continuing with spades, let South lead a low diamond from the dummy.

If East has the king, no problem. If East follows low and one of Souths honors lose to West, there may be a problem. Here, West will capture the diamond with the king and likely play a second club. South ruffs and plays a second spade. If both opponents follow, the slam is secure.

If one of the opponents should show out on file second spade, it is best to leave one spade outstanding and play the ace and another diamond. Again, if both opponents follow to the third diamond, the contract is secure but we have just encountered that little extra. Diamonds are 4-2 but the player with the shortness in diamonds has no trumps left. South can trump his low diamond in the dummy, trump a club back to his hand and pull the last spade. If South had played three rounds of spades, he would have lost this extra chance.

Norths four club bid was an advance cuebid, agreeing on spades and showing a club control. A delicate sequence followed and South declared six spades. The early going was routine. Dummys ace of clubs won the first trick, one high spade was cashed and then the declarer played two high hearts, discarding his clubs. It may seem routine to pull the rest of the trump and tiy to play diamonds for only one loser but that doesnt give South any extra chances.
