He was predeceased by his father Nicolai and mother Dora Schmidt; one brother John, killed in action in Italy in 1945; sister Elsa; broth ers-in-law, George Mahon and Mervyn At ton; and a grand niece Jennifer Schmidt. He is survived by his wife Helen; daugh ters Beverley, Carey (granddaughter Lacey); and son Brian (Dawn) of Saska toon; four sisters, Erna Atton of Saska toon, Kay (Leonard) Wiebe of Saskatoon, Louise Horace Bardwell of Sarnia, ON and his twin, Victoria Mahon of Sun City west, Anzona, USA; four brothers, Nic (Is abel) Schmidt of Sarnia, ON, Harry (Edna) Schmidt of Abbotsford, BC, Edward Schmidt of Bellingham, Washinton, USA and Herb (Sylvia) Schmidt of Abbotsford, BC; also numerous nieces and nephews Vic was born in Dalmeny.

It was there on the family farm that Vic learned how to work hard and honestly. He loved farming, cattle, and horses. As a teenager, he loved to play hockey. Playing for Langham and then for a short time for the Saskatoon Quakers. He toiled most of his life as a truck driver.

He loved the road and his cho sen favorite coffee stops along the way. During his long career, he worked for many companies, the last being Caron Trans port. He thoroughly enjoyed working with his co-workers there. He worked hard to give his family the things they wanted. The girls horses, Bnan a motor bike.

Later when he had a granddaughter, he also arranged a horse for her. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. The Fu neral Service will be held on Tuesday July 18, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Dalmeny Funeral Home conducted by Pastor Wayne Andres. Interment will take place at the Dalmeny Community Church Cemetery.

DALMENY FUNERAL HOME is in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory. ELWORTHY Elizabeth Elworthy of Saskatoon passed away on Friday, July 14, 1995 at the age of 70 years in St. Paul's Hospital. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m.

He is survived by his loving wife Elsie; and their children, Steven, Andrew and Colin; brothers, Paul (Madellien), Aime (Joanne); sisters, Annette (Dan) Dinelle, Alma (Emile) Deibert, Rosalie (Frank) Deibert, Joanne (Wes) Bader, and Anne (Rod) Selby, and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Gerry was predeceased by his parents, Anne and Aime Brochu.

Gerry lived and farmed all of his life in Colonsay, he was very community minded and a member of the Colonsay Lion's Club for 20 years. Gerry enjoyed restoring antique furniture and vehicles. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycles, and country music. Gerry's family was very Important to him, and he was very supportive in all his son's activities. A Vigil of Prayer will be held on Monday July 17, 1995 at 7:30 m.

She died on Friday, July 14, 1995 while a resident of St. Mary Villa, Humboldt, SK. Anne will be lovingly re membered by her sons; Martin (Theresa) Braun and family of Hungary, Ignatz (Mary) Braun and family of Leroy, SK, and a daughter-in-law Emma Braun and family of Atikokan, ON, 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, two step-sons Frank and Kenny Fersch and their tammes or ti- rose, SK, two nieces and two nephews Mary (Cesar) Verbeke of Saskatoon, SK, Julia Braun of Toronto, ON, John (Beth) Harpouer of Muenster, SK, and Joe Har- pouer of Kamloops, BC. Anne was prede ceased by her first husband Frank Braun; second husband John Fersch; a daughter Anna; son Joseph; parents Anton and Theresa Volf; also numerous sisters-in- law and brothers-in-law. Anne was born in Mor, Hungary on July 7, 1903.

In 1922 she married Frank Braun. They had four chil dren, three sons Martin, Ignatz and Jo seph and a daughter Anna. Anne lost her husband in the war, and in 1946 her daughter Anna also passed away. Anne came to Canada with her son Ignatz in 1950 to Join her other son Joseph who came to Canada the year before. They first lived with John and Theresa (nee: Braun) Harpouer in Barwick, ON.

Then she moved to a nearby farm with her sons and lived there until 1953. In 1954 she moved to Humboldt, SK. In 1958 Anne moved to El rose, SK, when she married John Fersch. John and Anne spent many years travel ing, In 1969 John passed away. Anne then returned to Humboldt, SK.

In 1972 It gave her great joy to see her son Martin who came to Canada for a six week visit. Anne lost her son Joseph in 1973 which gave her great sorrow. Anne lived in senior housing until 1987 when she moved to St. Mary's Villa. Humboldt, SK.

Anne's life was filled with many good and bad times. In 1944 she was a refugee in Czechoslova kia, fleeing from Russian troops. With no aid they traveled around in box cars until they finally made it back to Hungary to find their land and possessions had been taken. They eked out a living for the next three years until they were thrown out on February 2, 1948. They were put back into box cars and sent to East Germany.

In East Germany they nearly starved to death while working as laborers on farms. After one year they sneaked across the border to West Germany and one year later in 1950 they left for Canada. Anne was 47 years old when she started a new life in a new country. Anne enjoyed being with peo ple. She loved a good cup of coffee or tea especially with company.

She enjoyed be ing with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She truly was a survivor, and will be sadly missed by all. An Honor Guard will be formed by the C.W.L. Honorary Pallbearers will be "All those who shared in Anne's Active Pall bearers will be Dennis Braun, Garry Braun, Steve Braun, Bob Layh, Henri Ethier and Keith Caldwell. Fu neral arrangements are in care of WESTWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL (653- 3434). GRIMES Joseph John Grimes died peacefully In the Royal University Hospital on Friday, July 14, 1995 at 76 years of age. His passing brought merciful release from the physical limitations imposed in recent years by A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's Dis ease). Home to Joe was the town of Eston SK, where he was born to a family of eleven children and where he married Au- relia Owens, beloved wife of 53 years There they raised four cherished daugh ters among family and friends.

After four years of service with the Canadian Army, Joe returned to Eston where he proudly served 45 years in the employ of the R.M of Snipe Lake. Joe and Aurelia moved to McClure Place in Saskatoon in Sept. of 1994, where they have enjoyed the sup port of many friends and the outstanding care provided by a team of compassionate medical professionals led by Dr. L. Ko- rchinski, to whom the family express their sincere thanks.

Joe could build or fix any thing, and he took great pleasure in the countless hours he devoted as handyman to his family and his church, which were the focus of his life. The time spent in his workshop with visiting grandchildren was a special joy. Joe is survived by wife Aure lia, four daughters and their families; Car- olynn and husband Garry Drabble of Saskatoon and sons Rodney and Rory, Kathy and husband Terry Baker of Waterloo, ON and children Kimberly and Neil, Joanne and husband Marvin Nagel of Redcliff AB, Tamara and husband Bruce Buckwold and sons Ben and Adam of Saskatoon. He is also survived by sister Thelma Lonnberg and brother Harry Grimes, both of Eston, and many nieces and nephews. Saska toon friends shared in a memorial service at McClure United Church on Sunday eve ning past, conducted by Rev.

IVES The death of Leslie Frederick Norman (Les) Ives of Saskatoon Veterans Home (formerly of Kenaston, SK) oc curred at his residence on Saturday, July 15th, 1995. Also surviving are thirty seven grandchildren and thirty six great grandchildren. Les was predeceased by his parents, his wife Vir ginia Mary in 1987; one daughter, Alice In 1939; his daugnter-in-iaw, Lillian Ives in 1993; three sisters and four brothers. Les was born and raised in England. He came to Saskatchewan in 1923 to work with his brother in Kelllher.

In 1943, Les joined the Royal Canadian Army and served In Can ada and Continental Europe. Following his discharge on March 21st, 1946, he worked as a bricklayer in Saskatoon until 1953, and then worked for the Depart ment of National Defence and later for the Department of Veteran Affairs until his re tirement In 1970. In 1991, Les made his home in Saskatoon at the Veteran's Home where he resided until his passing. The family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association 104-2301 Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 5Z5, rather than floral tributes. 204 6th Ave. N. Saskatoon, Sea. S7K 2P1. DEATHS 1000 BOURHIS Yvon Baptiste known as age 79 years after a lengthy ill ness, passed away peacefully on July 14, 1995.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Doreen of 53 years; and his family: Diane (Ron) Shearer of Penticton, BC; Tom Bourhis Callie and Bradley of Saskatoon, SK; Bonnie Mclntryre Graeme and Scott of Saskatoon, SK; Gerald (Kathy) Bourhis of Sherwood Park, AB; one brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father; two sisters, and two brothers. Jerry was born June 23, 1916 in Hazelvalley district of Saskatchewan. He received his education in Kennedy, SK and in Regina, SK. He taught school for a few years, until he enlisted in the Army, then transferred to the Air Force.

In 1942, he started working for the Government of Saskatchewan Liquor Board until his re tirement in 1979. He enjoyed curling, bowling, fishing, and also gardening. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Council 1517 for 50 years, also the Royal Canadian Legion 63 Branch for 50 years. In his time spent at Sherbrooke Community Centre, he enjoyed the many friends he made, also the outings and other activities. The nurses and staff were his friends, it was his home, away from home.

He received excellent tender loving care and attention from all of them. We the family would like to thank all staff, nurses and Dr. T. Jahnke for all their help. RIEKMAN It is with sadness that the family of Herman William Riekman announces his sudden passing on July 13th, 1995. Death occurred at Mercy Hospital in Williston, North Dakota. He had attained the age of 74 years and 9 months.

After completing his high school at Rosthern Junior College, he served in the Signal Corps of the Canadian Armed Forces from 1941 to 1945. Herman lifes work was that of Secretary of the Rural Municipality in Cut-knife, SK. He and his wife Dora raised their two sons in that commumity, enjoying small town life and cherishing the friendships they made there. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Judith Riekman; his wife, Dora; his sister Eileen Dueck; and his son, Robert. Left to mourn his passing are his son, Allen; brothers and sisters, Elsie Epp, Robert (Bertha), Walter, Henry (Linda), Louella Dueck, Evelyn (John) Schellenberg.

Norma (Alvin) Rempel; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jan Dueck, Justine (John) Rempel, Ann (Albert) Kroeker, Mary Martens, Arnold Martens, and friend, Dora Ericson. A private Graveside Service will be held at the Eigenheim Cemetery on Wednesday, July 19th, 1995 at 4:00 p.m. Herm will be fondly remembered for his quiet ways and (lis great love of travelling. Sadly missed by his beloved wife, Sandra; son Clayton of Saskatoon; daughter, Erin of Vancouver; sister Jayne (Charles) of Prince Albert and their children, Matthew, Landis, Jilleen; brother, Tony of Vancouver; mother, Norma Towill (Arthur) of Prince Albert. Predeceased by his father Nick Melnyk of Vancouver in 1993. Lawrence was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on March 10, 1947 where he resided until 1962, moving to Vancouver with his family where he received the remainder of his schooling. He married Sandra (Paynter) of Kinistino, SK, on June 23, 1972. Lawrence worked at H.F.

Clarke in Vancouver as well as Johnstone Boiler Tank before moving to Saskatoon in November 1993. He proudly owned and operated Tante Maria's in Saskatoon which he bought in August 1994. Family holidays were very Important to Lawrence, never missing on opportunity to travel, trin and Clayton's achievements made Lawrence very proud. He enjoyed activities such as golfing and coaching girls and boys soft-ball for many years. Lawrence's wit and teasing manner will forever be one of our fondest memories.

BURKE The death of William (Bill) Ray mond Burke, age 73 years of Saskatoon, SK, occurred at St. Paul's Hospital on July 14, 1995. The Memorial Service will be held from Grace-Westminster United Church (505 10th Street East, Saskatoon, SK) on Tuesday, July 18, 1995 at 2:00 p.m.

Conducted by Rev. Don Barss. A Pri vate Interment will be held at a later date. Bill leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Eva; son, Raymond (Judy); and three grandchil dren, Jeff, Heather (Chris) Ramsay and Kelly; also his sister, Thelma Ken) Brock- ington; niece, Carol; and two great-nephews, Robb and Jeremy Sewell. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joy Dariene (12 years old) in 1962; his parents, Walter and Ruth Burke in 1964 and 1965.

William was born December 1. 1921 in Rose- town Hospital. As a child Bill lived In Fiske, Webb, on a farm near Glaslyn, in Watson and Saskatoon. Bill served In the Cana dian Army Provost Corps during "the" War. He met and married Eva Tiefenbacn while stationed in Regina.

He was medically dis charge from the Army In 1943. Through the early years of marriage Bill and Eva were employed as telephone lineman and operator at Macrorie and Unity. Bill's work career included working for the Railroad, Saskatoon Police Department and Canada Post Office. He retired from the Post Office in 1979. Bill served his community well.

He was on the Post Office Credit Union Executive for 25 years, holding the Vice Presidency for 20 years. He was president of the Local Letter Carriers' Union for five years. He was on the executive of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Associ ation and the Deserama Mobile Home Ranch in Mesa, Ariz. Bill (Slim) was known as a baseball pitcher for various teams in Saskatchewan and the Calgary 99'ers. He was inducted Into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame as a player In 1987 and served four years on that executive.

Bill and Eva enjoyed their winters curling and summers golfing. Together in 1981 they scored two perfect ends curling. Bill in golf, scored a hole-in-one in 1981 and again in 1982 in tournament play. They gave up curling In 1986 when they bought a mobile home in Mesa, Ariz, so continued to golf summers and winters. Bill and Eva celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniver sary in 1992.

Bill loved his family time. They spent many happy summers together at the family cottage at Murray Point. Bill will be missed by his family, relatives and friends. The family would appreciate Memorial Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 438 2nd Avenue North, Saska toon, SK, S7K 3C3 rather than floral trib utes. (664-3131) DEATHS 1000 Tmw DITTMER Edna Murial Dittmer (Case ment) passed away suddenly on Friday, July 14 at Royal University Hospital. Edna was born October 30, 1925 on the family farm eight miles south of Bradwell, SK. She attended Onward School and Brad- well High School, and then worked for the CNR tor several years at Bradwell and other points. She married Lester Dittmer on November 7, 1944 and Lester and Edna lived and farmed in the Dundurn area until the present time. She was very active in music, sewing and family activi ties; enjoying her family, friends and her community.

For many years she played the piano in the Weneger Orchestra and with a local Dundurn band as well as at weddings and church services. Edna was a member of the Coates Homemakers Club serving as secretary for many years. She taught sewing in 4-H and at the co-op Store in Saskatoon. As well, she was the commu nity cake decorator for weddings and birth days. She enjoyed doing pettipoint and many other crafts.

Edna leaves to mourn her husband Lester; her daughters Joy (Len) Folk of Kelowna, BC and Joyce of Saskatoon. She was predeceased by her eldest daughter Lynn on May 30, 1963 her sister Lois in 1990; her father Allan in 1969 and her mother Jennie in 1953. The Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 19, at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of The Saskatoon Funeral Home with Rev. William Gilmer officiating.

Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery. Those who wish to may remember Edna with a gift to the Dundurn United Church Memo rial Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME HINZ The death of Mr. David Hinz, age 87 years of Central Haven Personal Care Home, Saskatoon occurred on July 15, 1995. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 1995 at 2:30 p.m from the Mennonite Brethren Church in Wald- heim.

Mr. Hinz was predeceased by his wife Hertha in 1983. He is survived by three daughters Eileen (Art) Quiring, Laird, Neoma (Harold) Jantz, Winnipeg, and Marlon (Donald) Unger, Prince George; three sons, Donald (Marilyn) Hinz, Lome (Leslie) Hinz, and R. David (Lois) Hinz, all of Wald- heim; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grand children; one sister, Mary Baerg, Abbotts-ford; and two brothers, Walter (Mary) Hinz, Abbottsford, and bill Hinz, Saskatoon. Interment will take place in the Waldheim Cemetery.

Arrangements are In care of FUNK'S FUNERAL HOME, Rosthern. FOSTER Norton Walter Stacey passed away peacefully July 14, 1995. Norton was born in 1924 In the Watrous area. He served overseas during the Second World War for which he was a proud veteran. He married Ruth Allenson of Saskatoon in 1948.

They made their home in the Allan- Bradwell district where he worked at and later owned a service station. Surviving are his wife Ruth, their 3 sons, 4 daugh ters, and 12 grandchildren. As his last request, Norton donated his body to medical research. It was Norton's wish to be cremated and a private family memorial will held on Wednesday, July 19, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. from Hillcrest Memorial Garden's Chapel.

To know Norton, he can only described as one of a kind and he will sadly missed. THIESSEN The Funeral of Barney Thiessen of Carrot River, SK, formerly of Langham and Aberdeen, will be held Tuesday, July 18th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Carrot River Mennonite Church.
