Symington Democratic candidate for senator said last night in a recorded broadcast over WDAF The questions that come before Congress at present require more than such a record" Symington said referring to his opponent James Kern "To paraphrase Lincoln you just can't vote against all the people all the time" Symington said Kern voted to cut appropriations which would have taken part of the naval fleet out of mothballs and appropriations to enlarge the air force "In 1949 my opponent voted to cut the air force from fifty-eight to forty-eight groups" the St Louisan said "A few months later the war began in Korea Previously he voted to cut funds for building and repairing ships by 77 per cent "In 1946 Kern said he was in favor of a bipartisan foreign policy After he was elected he voted against that very thing He even cast a ballot against the North Atlantic Treaty organization in 1948" Symington said it is hard to believe the voting record of a senator could be so negative "I am informed that Kern had twenty-three chances to vote on legislation directly affecting the farmer" he said "On twenty-two occasions he has voted against those bills including measures on 90 per cent parity soil conservation and the Rural Electrification administration "On thirty bills affecting the laboring man he has cast thirty "no" votes compiling the worst anti-labor record of any Missouri candidate" Eugene A age 24 1215 Greek' ave Services 2 rn Tuesday in the Werner chapel on Washington blvd at 181h Interment Memorial Park cemetery The family will receive friends in the chapel after nominee for governor was indirectly responsible for the 1946 vote frauds in KanflaS City were labeled vicious falsehoods last night by Joseph Stewart former member of the election board in a speech On WDAF Howard Elliott the opponent of Donnelly has said the election board appointed by Donnelly in 1946 issued secret and illegal orders to let judges mark ballots for voters" Stewart said statement was deliberately false and a slander to both Donnelly and his election board The instructions issued In 1946 by the election board were the same as those used in the late 1930s to clean up the political corruption here Besides that they were approved by both Democratic and Republican board members "Elliott has failed to mention some of the great progressive work done by that 1946 board such as setting up the schoolhouse registration plan which has made it possible for thousands more persons to vote and an action of the board that made: it nearly impossible to commit' an election appointment of deputy election commissioners to watch the polls Republican candidate also has launched a vicious personal attack against Donnelly charging that he refused to investigate irregularities in the 1946 primaries and that he would not investigate the dynamiting' of the courthouse vault These charges are just products of his over-active and none too scrupulous imagination" 1 1 1 1 1 YOUR of Western Missouri are in dange rof being without representation in the Senate James Kern Republican who seeks re-election said last night on WDAF "Next Tuesday the voters will be called upon to decide whether they want both of the Missouri senators to come from St Louis" the candidate said "A third of all Missourians live in St Louis and St Louis County and for many years there has been an unwritten rule in the state that one senator shall come from St Louis and the other from out-state Missouri The rule has the support of both political parties It even was insisted upon by President Truman when Stuart Symington first became a candidate "Not since the years immediately following the War Between the States has outstate Missouri been without represenation in the Senate But now a group of selfish men are trying to elect a senator of their own choice They are trying to go whole hog "Surely the people of outstate Missouri in view of our own problems and our own needs will not permit themselves to become a party to this self-seeking conspiracy" Kern said a vote cast Tuesday for the Democrats will mean only more favoritism influence in government unjust enrichment in public office and more Washington scandals "But if voters want a constructive hard-hitting approach to our problems at home and abroad" Kern a i "they should vote for Eisenhower and the Republican ticket because that is what we are for" Kern said his own platform includes economy in government honesty in office clean elections and reasonable taxes Announcements Jaw FUNERAL DIRECTORS SLOAN Lodge No 729
