Edna May Baker (nee Griffin) of Aspen Manor, Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake. SK occurred peacefully with her family around her on Saturday, January 29, 1994 at her residence. Mrs. Baker was 92 years of age. Edna was born to Bromley and Emma (nee Toop) Griffin on March 11, 1901 near Bristol, England.

Her mother passed away suddenly of a heart attack in 1912. The following year, on Edna's twelfth birthday, she immigrated to Canada with her father, sister and two brothers. Her brother, Victor had emigrated from England to Canada before them. They settled in the Qu'Appelle district of Saskatchewan until 1916. when they moved on to the Middle Lake area where Edna's father took up a homestead.

In January 1923. she married William (Bill) Baker and they lived on his homestead, which was ten miles east of Middle Lake. They raised four sons and two daughters. Edna experienced both good and bad times during and after the depression years of the 1930 s. In 1959, she and Bill retired to Bethany Pioneer Village.

Bill passed away there in 1961. Edna did not believe in being idle. She loved to knit, and many people were often recipients of the slippers and mittens she crafted for them. Edna was an excellent babysitter and very close to her precious grandchildren. She was very active and received much pleasure from walks in the park and along the lake near her residence.

Edna was always faithful in recording her thoughts and daily activities in a diary. She was very content in her suite, where she also enjoyed playing solitaire in between her knitting. She often remarked how lucky she was to live at Bethany Village. As her health deteriorated in 1989. she moved into Aspen Manor, where she received full care.

There she continued to enjoy her knitting until she suffered a stroke in 1991, which confined her to a wheelchair. Edna is lovingly remembered by her three sons, Keith (Alvina) of Middle Lake, SK, Robert and Edward, both of Regina, SK; two daugh ters, Phyllis Lamb of Regina, SK and Joyce (Wayne) Lamb of Saskatoon, SK; a daughter- in-law, Rose Baker of Middle Lake, SK; four teen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Louise Griffin of Mid die Lake, SK.
