Saskatoon. Saskatchewan Star-Phoenix C10 Latin America Thurso, i Reagan applauds Contras' pledge to win country In Menwriams HALLAM David John It's quietly remembered every day. Sadly missed along lites way. Just as you were, you will always be. Treasured and loved In our memory.

Lovingly remembered and deeply missed by Dale and Denlse. HALLAM In loving memory of David, who passed away June 19, 1981. Time may heal the broken hearted Time may make the wound less sore. But It cannot till the longing For the loved one gone before Who shall say the grief is lessened, Though smile hide the tears, Memories keep' the wound still open With the passing of the years. Ever remembered by Mom, Dad.brethersand.'.isters.

HALLAM In loving memory my brother Dave, who passed June 19, 1981. His charming ways and smiling lace Are a pleasure to recall; He had a kindly word for each And died beloved by all. Always remembered by Don, Jeny and Neil. WELSH In loving memory of Katrina, our deardaugh-rer ana sisier, wno passed away one year ago today. God came down from heaven He walked amidst the flowers He stopped to pick the sweetest one And the one He picked was ours, Her golden heart stopped beating Her body is now at rest God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

The blow was hard, the shock severe We never thought her death so near. Only those who lost can tell The pain of parting without farewell Dear God, forgive our silent tears And constant wish that she was here, Others were taken, ves we know But she was ours and we miss her so. So many things have happened, Since you were called away, So many things to share with you Had you been left to stay, So many times we've needed vou, And so many times we've cried, It our love could have saved vou You never would have died. It broke our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone. For part of us went with you The day God called you homo.

You are ever loved and so sadly missed. Mom, Ray, Lisa, Sherry (Richard), Greg and Cindy. Personal The Nicaraguan rebels came to Washington to lobby for the proposal that would channel $100 million in military and economic aid to them. Congress, is likely to vote on the matter next week. Larry Speakes, the deputy White House press secretary, said rebel leaders told Reagan the Soviet Union is stepping up assistance to the Nicaraguan government in hopes of defeating the rebels before help arrives.

"The president pledged that we cannot let that happen and noted that the world is watching us to see if the United States is only a fair-weather friend," Speakes said in a statement. Moreover, Reagan congratulated the rebels on their efforts to broaden their base and refine their political program, he said. Several human-rights organizations and defectors from the rebel cause have repeatedly charged the rebels with committing rape, murder and terrorism against the civilian population. "He praised the Nicaraguan leaders for their clear and firm commitment to the goal of establishing democratic government in their Speakes said of the president. In a briefing for reporters, the rebel leaders said they told Reagan of their desperate need for arms.

Robelo said no U.S. military aid has reached the rebels since May 1984. WASHINGTON (AP) President Ronald Reagan applauded Nicaraguan rebels' commitment to overthrow the government of' Nicaragua on Wednesday and renewed for visiting rebel leaders-his pledge of U.S. assistance. Reagan, who must still persuade the House of Representatives to approve his plan to send $100 million U.S.

to the counterrevolutionary forces, met with three leaders of the United Nicaraguan Opposition, the U.S.-sup-ported umbrella group overseeing elements fighting to oust the government in Managua. Rebel leaders Alfonso Robelo, Arturo Cruz and Adolfo Calero, seeking to improve prospects for House passage of the aid program, said they have established their own "blue-ribbon to look into how U.S. aid money is being spent. The General Accounting Office, the investigative arm of Congress, said earlier this month some of the $27 million in 'non-lethal' aid given to the rebels last year was misappropriated. Reagan's face-to-face meeting with the rebels was his second in about three months, and the second time in a week he has heard pleas from an anti-government movement.

On Monday, Moslem fundamentalist Afghan rebels battling to topple the government in Kabul urged the United States to supply them with sophisticated anti-aircraft equipment. 35 Nicaraguan refugees abducted by rebel leader SASKATOON COMPUTER DATE WE CHANGE SINGLES INTO HAPPY COUPLES Now you have the opportunity to become one of the Many Men and Women who will meet New Friends and Discover Exciting Romance. Ship held enough arms to equip 1,000 men BALBOA, Panama AP) The Panamanian navy detained a Danish ship and its crew and seized enough Soviet-made military equipment for at least 1.000 men, a military official said. The ship, the Pia Vesta, was docked near the port of Balboa at the Pacific end of the Panama Canal on Wednesday.

Its captain and craw were confined on board for investigation but no charges had been filed. One news report said they were attempting to smuggle arms to rebels in El Salvador. Reporters were shown the large cache of weapons stored in a nearby armed forces warehouse. Jose Correa, deputy commander of the navy, said the 520-tonne ship was carrying 32 four-wheel drive Robur trucks, 1,500 reconditioned machine guns, RPG-18 disposable rocket launchers and ammunition. It was enough equipment for 1.000 to 1,500 men, Correa said.

The ship was intercepted and detained last Saturday after Panamanian authorities received a tip from the Peruvian government, he said. The newspaper La listrella de Panama said without citing sourc the remote border area, which is known as the Mosquitia, said eight of the kidnapped managed to escape and were transferred to another UN camp. The fate of the other 27 was unknown, they said. Of the 25,000 Nicaraguan refugees living in Honduras in UN camps, 17,000 are Miskito Indians. Honduran military authorities said they were aware of the kidnappings but did not want to become involved in what they considered an internal struggle between the Nicaraguans.

es that the 250-tonne cargo apparently was destined for leftist rebels fighting the U.S. -backed government of El Salvador. The Pia Vesta is registered as belonging to Jorgen Jensen of Denmark. Danish authorities have accused Jensen of illegally carrying weapons to the government of South Africa in 1981 and 1982. The case is expected to come before a Danish court later this summer.

Correa said the ship had called at the East German port Of Rostock, travelled through the Panama Canal and headed for Callao, Peru. When it did not arrive in Callao on schedule, Peruvian authorities investigated, found that it was returning to Panama and advised Panama, Correa said. Authorities boarded the ship when it arrived in Panamanian waters and found that although the manifest listed only rolling stock and accessories, it also was carrying military equipment, he said. Panamanian law prohibits vessels from going through the Panama Canal with undeclared cargo, which is automatically considered contraband. a Maoist group, was trying to embarrass President Alan tiarcia's centre-left government as hundreds of delegates from around the world arrive for a meeting of the Socialist International beginning Friday in Lima.

Prisoners at the Lurigancho, El Fronton and Santa Barbara prisons rioted at about 6 a.m., said the minister's report.
