A memorial celebration of Avia's life will take place December 9,2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Elkhart. When spring returns to the garden a private burial will take place in the Columbarium of the First Presbyterian Church of Elkhart. He was born December 4, 1927, in Mishawaka to Clifford Martha (Stumpff) Gramm. On July 31, 1948, in Mishawaka, he married Wanda Lee. She preceded him in death on September 1, 2003, in California. Surviving are 2 sons, John Gramm of Knox, IN, Carl Gramm of Elkhart; 1 daughter, Jowanna Gramm of Elkhart; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Anna Lou Farrell of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Gramm; a grandson, David Gramm; 2 sisters, Mary Eileen Porkorny and Eva Mae Delio; and a great-grandson, Gabriel.

John retired from South Bend Stamping in 1991. He was an area resident until 1992 when he moved to Las Vegas. He returned to this area in 2004. John was a US Navy veteran serving in W.W.II and Korea. He was a member and past senior vice commander of the Osceola American Legion.

Visitation for family and friends will be for 2 hours prior to the 2:00 p.m. today, November 13, 2013, funeral service at Zim-merman-lnman Funeral Home, 1109 Lincoln Way West, Osceola, Indiana. Pastor Jeff Kendall will preside and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, where the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Osceola American Legion will render military honors. Memorial contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice Care.

Gene was born January 15, 1942, to Melvin and Esther (Sarber) Holdemen at Bremen, Indiana. He has been a lifelong resident of the area. Gene was known by many golfers who played at Sprig-O-Mint Golf course. He was the groundskeeper and always had a smile for those who were privileged to hit a ball his direction. He had worked at Dodge Manufacturing of Mishawaka and had owned the Bremen Bowling Lanes for several years.

In his spare time he loved farming, being outside, drag racing, and all the activities of his grand-kids and their sports events. Anything that involved family and friends you would find Gene there. "His smile was beautiful" and will be greatly missed by all. Gene married Judy Ann Early on June 16, 1962; she died April 20, 1991. He is survived by his daughter, Gina (Mrs.

Marty) Cannoot of Lakeville; his son, Todd Holdeman of Plymouth; and his grandchildren, Ashley Holdeman, James Rose, Craig and (Amber) Cassel, Chase Cassel and fiancee, Lenae Bennett; and great-grandchildren, Kennedy Cassel and Raigen Cassel. He was further blessed with his sisters, Ruth Ann (Mrs. Allen) Graber of North Webster, Carol (Mrs. John) Wagoner of North Webster; and a brother, Fred and (Linda) Holdeman of Lakeville. Proceeding in death were his parents, his wife, a son, Kevin (Sept.

9, 2001), great-granddaughter, Jailyn, and two brothers, Ralph and Charles. You are invited on Friday, November 15, 2013, to share memories with the family from 2 6 P.M. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main Bourbon, IN 46504. John S. Dunne, C.S.C. Dec. 3, 1929- Nov. 11, 2013 NOTRE DAME Rev.

John Scribner Dunne, C.S.C., 83, died Monday (Nov. 11, 2013) at Holy Cross House. Fr. Dunne was born on Dec. 3, 1929, to John Scribner and Dorothy (Vaughn) Dunne in Waco, Texas.

He attended St. Edward's Academy on the campus of St. Edward's University, Austin, Texas, from 1943 to 1945, and then moved to Holy Cross Minor Seminary at the University of Notre Dame (Ind.) for his senior year of high school. Fr. Dunne was received into the Congregation of Holy Cross on Aug.

15, 1946, and made his First Vows on Aug. 16, 1947. He studied philosophy at the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated in 1951. Fr. Dunne made his Final Profession of Vows on Aug.

16, 1951, and was ordained to the priesthood on Dec. 18, 1954, in Rome. He earned an S.T.L. in Sacred Doctrine in 1955 and an S.T.D. in 1958, both from the Gregorian University in Rome.

Fr. Dunne returned to Notre Dame in 1957, where he began teaching and prefecting. He studied at Princeton University from 1960 to 1961, and also served as a chaplain at Our Lady of Princeton. He returned to Notre Dame to teach from 1961 to 1967. He taught at Moreau Seminary on the campus of Notre Dame from 1969 to 1970 and then again at Notre Dame from 1970 to 1972.

Fr. Dunne was a visiting professor at Yale University from 1972 to 1973 before coming back to Notre Dame to teach from 1973 to 2013. He spent several sabbatical years at the Holy Cross Center, Berkeley, throughout his tenure at Notre Dame. Fr. Dunne was the John A.

O'Brien Professor of Catholic Theology at Notre Dame. He published numerous books and received several awards from the University, including the 2013 Presidential Award, the Sheedy Award and the Danforth Foundation Harbison Award. He is credited by the Notre Dame Theology Department as having taught more students than anyone else in the University's history. In 1999, Fr. Dunne was named as one of the most influential spiritual writers of the 20th century.

Fr. Dunne also received a first-place award for his book, "Eternal Consciousness," from the Catholic Press Association in June 2013. Fr. Dunne's parents are deceased. He is survived by his sister, Carrin Mary Dunne; brother, Patrick (Margaret) Dunne; nephews, James Michael Dunne and John (Rebecca) Dunne; and great-niece and -nephew, Catherine and Nolan.

Visitation will be 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 14, 2013) at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame. Visitation will be in the Lady Chapel. The Wake Service will be held in the nave at 7:30 p.m.

The Funeral Mass will be 3:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 15, 2013) at the Basilica with committal immediately following at the Holy Cross community cemetery on the campus of Notre Dame. He was born to John and Catherine (Mauer) Eck in Chicago, IL. His parents and his brother, Marcel, and sister, Jean, preceded him in passing. He is survived by his sister, Betty (Rodger) Gilruth of Akron, OH; daughter, Jeanette (Russell) Field of Lake Mary, FL; son, Leon (Sarah) Eck of South Bend, IN; their mother, Kathleen Gray; grandchildren, Kelly, Kim, Patrick, James, Matthew, Thomas, Quentin; and great-granddaughter, Alexis. Leon spent most of his life in Chicago where he was an ironworker for 48 years and member of Ironworkers Local 1 After he retired, he moved to South Bend where he spent his time with his grandkids. He was a regular at Holy Cross, Saint Joe High School and East Side Baseball watching their sporting events.

A Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church, 920 Wilber Street, South Bend, IN, at 11:00 am Thursday, November 14, 2013. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will be available for visitation one hour before the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross School. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert A. "Rob" Feitz, 53, of Lowell, IN, passed away on November 4, 2013, in his home. He was born on September 28, 1960, in South Bend, IN, to Bob F. and Marlene M. (Milner) Feitz.

He is survived by his wife of twenty eight years, Dr. Ellyn (Heckaman) Feitz; his daughter, Erika, and son, David; his mother, Marlene M. Feitz of South Bend, IN; and father, Bob E. (Sharon) Feitz of Lakeville, IN. He is also survived by his sister, Susan (Rick) Staldine of WY; and two brothers, Jon Feitz of CA and Dr.

Daniel Feitz of Panama City, FL. Robert was a 1978 graduate of LaVille High School, and a 1985 graduate of Indiana University School of Optometry. He and his wife have lived in Lowell since 1988 where they owned and operated Feitz Eye Clinic. He was a loving father and son, and will be missed by his many wonderful patients and friends. A Private Celebration of life service will be held.

John W. Gramm Dec. 4, 1927- Nov. 9, 2013 OSCEOLA John W. Gramm, 85, of Osceola, passed away at 1 1 :10 a.m.

Morris Mead May 21, 1925 Nov. 11, 2013 NILES Morris was born May 21, 1925, in Cass County, the son of Raymond D. and Dolly Pearl (Edmonds) Mead. He was united in marriage to Margaret "Peggy" Frost on August 18, 1946, in Niles, Ml. He served in the U.S.

Navy during WW II earning the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with three stars, American Area Medal, Victory Medal and Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars. Morris was a 40-plus-year member of the Niles American Legion Post 26 and was an over 50-year member of the Local Union 150 International Operating Engineers. His surviving family includes his sons, Roy A. Mead of Atlanta, GA, and Terry (Cindy) Mead of Niles, Ml; three grandsons, Ethan, Tyler and Timothy Mead, all of Niles; and one sister, Helen Head of Dowagiac, Ml. Morris passed away Monday, November 1 1 2013, at the Timbers of Cass County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Viola Shugars, and four brothers, Victor, Donald, Lyle and Earl Mead. His family will gather with friends tosday, November 13, 2013, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Clark Chapel, 405 Center Dowagiac, Ml. com. Bernard J. Rakowski April 22, 1924- Nov. 10, 2013 ORA Bernard J. Rakowski, 89, of Ora, IN, passed away at 9:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2013, at his home.

He was born on April 22, 1924, in Chicago, IL, to the late John and Alice Luczak Rakowski. He graduated from Washington Trade School in Chicago. Bernard married Ozetta Daisy Paszek on Oct. 16, 1954 in Scotts-dale, AZ. She passed away on April 20, 2011.

Bernard served in the US Army 1st Battalion 179th Infantry 45th Infantry Division during WW II. He survived the Battle of Anzio and helped liberate Dachau Prison. See OBITUARIESPage C4 1113 Raymond Earl "Ray" Checchio July 18, 1935- Nov. 10, 2013 ELKHART Raymond Earl "Ray" Checchio, 78, of Elkhart, returned to his heavenly home Sunday evening, November 10, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on July 18, 1935, in Elkhart, to the late Joseph A.

and Stella R. (Whittaker) Checchio. Ray was an only child and faced the traumatic experience of losing his mother at the age of nine. On September 22, 1962, he married Lonita "Dunny" Blosser. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Lonita; a daughter, Monica (Mark) Christian; his granddaughter, Shelby E.

Christian; and a close cousin, Joseph P. Checchio. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Raymond Jr. Mr. Checchio retired from CTS Corporation after more than 50 years of service.

Ray had a love of old cars and trucks, and used to give his granddaughter rides in his Model A. He also enjoyed watching Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies. From an early age, Ray developed a love of music and learned to play guitar. His daughter and granddaughter passed on this love of music "especially class rock" to him. Ray was especially proud of his Italian ancestry and was known for his great sense of humor.

He will be missed by all, and especially his granddaughter Shelby and her dog Ellen or jashjoboogie whom he spent much time with, prior to his passing. 10, 2013 NOTRE DAME Brother Kenneth Hayward, 90, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013, in hospice care at Dujarie House, Notre Dame, IN, after a short illness. A member of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Moreau Province, he was born on April 2, 1923, in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. After working in welding, ship building and sales, he entered the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1949 and professed his final vows in 1953. His ministries included farm work in Granger and Rolling Prairie, IN, and grounds work at boys' homes in Michigan and California.

Brother Kenneth worked for nearly 30 years at Rancho San Antonio, Chatsworth, CA, before moving to Columba Hall, Notre Dame, in retirement. Services for Brother Kenneth will be held at Our Lady of Holy Cross Chapel at Dujarie House on Friday morning, November 15, 2013. Visitation from followed by the Mass for Christian Burial. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery at Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame.

11, 2013 SOUTH BEND Joann Kinzie Krych, 81, of South Bend, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at home. The Mishawaka native was born April 24, 1932, to Russell and Hazel (Huff) Kinzie, who have both preceded Joann in death. She married Eugene C. Krych on December 23, 1971, in Mishawaka.

Joann retired from the engineering office at in 1983. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mishawaka, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2083. She enjoyed Tatting, Knitting and Genealogy. Joann is survived by her husband of 41 years, Eugene C. Krych of 7 V- MAGENTA BLACK EDITION 50R.
