306.955.1600 SCHILLING, Otto Aug. 1 4, 1 929 June 24, 201 8 It is with profound sadness that the family of Otto Johannes Klaus Schilling announces his passing in the early morning hours of June 24th, 2018. Otto was born in Hannover, Germany. He leaves behind his children, Doug (Michelle), Martin (Christine), Mary Lou (Ken), Jayna (Chris), and all their children, Margeaux, Peter (Regina), Ella, Giselle, Danielle (Sophie), and Jessie Ray. His sisters Hanneliese, (Klaus), and Vikki in Germany, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

Otto was predeceased by his beloved wife Rita, whom he was married to for 46 wonderful years. He was also predeceased by his mother Hanna, his father Otto, and his older sisters Jolanda and Susanne, his brother in law Karl, and there daughter Desirae. Otto immigrated to Canada in the spring of 1952. Upon leaving the boat at Halifax Pier 21, he went to the train station with only in his pocket and asked "where will this take The ticket person said so he boarded the train upon arriving in Winnipeg, he turned right down a street and that was the "beginning of his He found a boarding house where he asked the landlady if he could stay for free until he found a job and pay her rent, and to his surprise, she said "Yes." The very next day he found a job at Standard Arrow Engine as a machinist. It would be the place where he would meet his beloved Rita, who was working there as a secretary.

After dating, eating supper in each other's apartments, and sharing one 7-up between them since neither had much money. Then Otto asked Rita to marry him. Their wedding would take place on May 22, 1954. The children started arriving in January, 1958 with Douglas and Martin arriving in February, 1960. But they both had their hearts set on adopting two girls the first of the girls would be Mary Lou in December 1962 and Jayna in August 1964.

It was during this time that Otto was taking his grade 12 Classes in the evening so he could go back to school to take his radio operator course. It would be his dream job. While still living in Winnipeg, Otto finishes his course, he finds a job with Transport Canada where he worked up till his retirement in 1994. He had worked in aviation for 42 years, something he was very proud of. Another big love in Otto's life was the cabin he built with his family at Brightsand Lake.

His happiest place was at the lake with Rita, enjoying her delicious meals, drinking a beer, and sitting on the deck looking at the lake as the sun was setting. Also his love for his cats Velvet, Matou, Mr Grey, Amber, Wiskers, Bandit, Little Max, Loverboy, and Yogi. Otto loved his cats, and nothing was too good for them. He took in strays just because they showed up on his doorstep. He believed that his cats would have all the food to fill their tummy's never get thirsty, and all the affection and love that he could give them.

Otto will be remembered for his cheerful and positive outlook on life, for never complaining in life, his great sense of humour and for his great ability for having great discussions on many topics- too many to mention. Otto came from a musical family so classical music was a great love of his, his radio in his kitchen was always on CBC from the time he got up until he went to bed. There are so many things to mention about this man! But to our family we will remember him as "Thank you" to all the nurses and doctors at Royal University Hospital who provided such good care to our father when he was in the hospital. He is a man who lived life to the fullest, with a larger than life personality, and yet would quietly do small things for people that might go unnoticed. In his life he owned several real estate properties and businesses and contracted with the City of Saskatoon. Later retiring to Naples Florida, a place he often called paradise, he spent his time growing his cherished orchids and roses.
