Juneau, 62, a close friend of Pierre Trudeau and a staunch Liberal who failed several tries to get elected as an MP, has been CBC president since 1982. He has held numerous other appointed posts. Several major arts figures defended Juneau in a letter to a Toronto newspaper urging the government to consider his contribution. The letter was signed by seven, including Pierre Berton, actor Gordon Pinsent and record retailer Sam Sniderman. PQ vote reform possible QUEBEC (CP) Yves Duhaime, minister responsible for electoral reform, says the government may introduce proportional representation in time for the next election in 1985. Duhaime said the government would make known its intentions next Tuesday at the start of the new legislative session. The Liberals support the proposal but don't want it implemented before the next election. New murder trial ordered OTTAWA (CP) A man convicted of first-degree murder in the hatchet slaying of Tricia Paquette, his stepdaughter, 8. in 1978 will get another trial. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled evidence that might have explained how John Wildman, 32, knew a Latchet had been used in the murder should not have been excluded at his trial. Key evidence against Wild-man was a telephone call to his divorce lawyer three days before the body had been found, in which Wildman said his wife had accused him of "killing Tricia with an axe." Wildman testified he had been with two friends who were not allowed to testify. Husband shoots wife MONTREAL (CP) A married couple was in serious condition Thursday after the husband shot his wife at a beauty salon then turned the gun on himself. The woman, 33, had just told her hairdresser she was a battered wife and seeking a divorce when the husband, 41, burst in and shot her in the head. He then shot himself in the mouth. Transit union talks resume MONTREAL (CP) - The Montreal transit commission and the union representing its 4,000 bus and subway drivers resumed contract talks Thursday in an attempt to avert a strike scheduled for next week. The drivers are scheduled to walk out next Thursday. The transit commission has been hit with 30 legal or illegal strikes in the past 20 years by the drivers or the 2,400 mechanics.
