MMaabbllee CCoolleemmaann Oct. 4, 1923 Nov. 28, 2003 Mable Coleman, 80, of Chestnut Street, South Bend, departed for a better life on Friday, Nov.28. She was born in Lepanto, to the union of Grady Ross and Viola (Haggin) Ross, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a husband, Perry E.

brother, Ellis Ross; and by a sister, Rose Dungey. She is survived by two daughters, Viola Maddox and Beatrice (Luther) Tyson brother, Ollie (Corrine) sisters, Barbara (Rev. Samuel) Chase Jr.and Geneva grandchildren, Eric Maddox, Joy Carpenter and Luther (Delysia) Tyson by a host of nieces and nephews, all of South Bend. All of us will miss her truly.Our mother, our sister, our grandmother, our aunt. Love, the family.

Services for Mable Coleman will be held at noon Thursday, Dec.4, in the Second Baptist Church, 24828 Filmore Road.Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. The Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. GGaabbrriieellllee KKoozzuucchh-CCaasswweellll July 22, 1968 Nov. 16, 2003 Gabrielle C.Kozuch-Caswell, 35, of Mundelein, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Nov.16, in Condell Medical Center, Libertyville, Ill. She was born on July 22, 1968, in Chicago, to Roberta C.

Kozuch and Timothy O.Schultz. She graduated from The Cove School of Northbrook, in 1983. She worked as a gallery assistant at Kozuch on Cortez Gallery and recently as a document specialist for the North Shore Community Bank and Trust of Glencoe, Ill. Her favorite travel destination was Paris, France, which she last visited for the Millennium Celebration of 2000.She was fond of all animals, but had a particular love of tigers.Her favorite flower was the red rose, and she collected cobalt blue glass objects of art. She was an artist and worked in both pastels and watercolors.

On June 8, 2002, she married Lawrence T.Caswell of Antioch, in New Buffalo, Mich.They made their home in Mundelein. She is survived by her husband, parents, Roberta C. Kozuch and Timothy O.Schultz of Chicago and New Buffalo.Gabrielle is the granddaughter of Edward and Ann Schultz of Culver, Ind. A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m.Saturday, Dec.6, in Malec and Sons, 6000 N. Milwaukee Chicago.

EEllmmeerr MMccCCaallll Aug. 5, 1916 Nov. 26, 2003 Coach Elmer E.McCall, 87, of Granger, died at 9:30 p.m.on Wednesday, Nov.26.He was in the University of Chicago Center for Advanced Medicine undergoing procedures for an aortic aneurysm. He became a resident of Wellington Park Vllas in Granger, in 1995.He lived 37 years in the DePauw University, Greencastle, community, served 20 years as varsity basketball coach, and he served three years coaching cross-country, golf and tennis.He retired as professor emeritus in 1981.Other positions were Ventura County High School, Delphi and Bloomington, Ventura Junior College, and South Bend Central High School. Coaching was his dream.

Encouraging young men to succeed in life as well as on the court was his goal.He taught and coached at all junior college, high school and junior high.He held basketball camps at DePauw for 17 years. Born in Frankfort, on Aug.5, 1916, his early education was in the Frankfort schools, graduating in the class of 1934.He lettered in four sports.From there he attended Ventura Junior College in California.He played basketball and was named to the All Southern California Jr.College Western Conference Team and Most Valuable Player at the J.C. He then attended Fresno State College in Fresno, played three years and was captain of the team.He received his BA degree in 1941 and MPE degree at Purdue University in 1948. He served in World War II in the U.S.Navy.In 1944 he was commissioned as an ensign, was sent to the Pacific area and assigned to a LCI gun boat that preceded troop landings.He received an honorable discharge in 1946 as a Lt.J.G., after serving in the Philippines, Borneo and Korea. His many honors Ventura High School, County CA State Championship at Ventura Jr.

JVC Western States Conference Champions; 1951, JVC Western States Conference Champions and JVC National Jr.College Tournament, IN Basketball State Championship, South Bend IN Basketball State Championship and undefeated year, South Bend DePauw University NCAA Tournament; 1977-78, NCAA Tournament; 1967-68, Coach of the Year IN Collegiate inducted into IN Basketball Hall of 1995, inducted into the DePauw University Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a 42-year member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches.He remained a coach emeritus.Elmer believed the team awards belonged to the players who gave so much time and effort to the game.He was a member of Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church in Greencastle, Ind. thoughts were of his family.He was devoted to Marjorie, his wife of 63 years, and their daughters who shared in his endeavors.They were married on Sept.1, 1940, in Flora, in the home of the father, G.E. Voorhees. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Voorhees daughters, Marcia A.DeLuca, Martinez, Sharon E.

Jenson, South Joe Deluca, Martinez, Gunnar Jenson, South grandson, Joseph Scott DeLuca of Bay Point, granddaughters, Melissa and Michelle DeLuca, great-grandsons, Cody Joe Deluca, Martinez, Dustin James DeLuca and Shane Michael DeLuca of Bay Point, Calif. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec.5, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 E. Cleveland Road, South Bend, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m.Thursday, Dec.4.Burial will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora. VViiccttoorr MMccFFaaddddeenn April 5, 1928 Nov. 30, 2003 Victor L.McFadden, 75, of Peashway Street, South Bend, died peacefully at 9:55 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, with family and friends at his side. Vic is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie Jean, with whom he spent over half a five children, Patrick of South Bend, Thomas (Joyce) of LaGrange, Maureen (James) and Dennis (Barbara) of Granger, and Terence (Laurie) of South Bend; as well as 12 wonderful grandchildren, Erin and Brendan McFadden, Kathleen and Mary Clare McFadden, Ryan, Conor and Patrick Dorgan, Colin and Kevin McFadden, and Michael, Sean and Charles Victor McFadden.

Vic was born in Grand Haven, the fifth of eight children born to Colonel Vincent G.and Irene (Hollis) McFadden.Vic was preceded in death by four brothers, Gerald Denis, Patrick Lawrence and Terrence Albert. He is survived by a brother, Gordon (Patricia) of Wilkes Barre, by sisters, Joan (Daniel) Mead of Grand Rapids, and Geraldine (Emery) Holzinger of Grand Haven. Vic was a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and lost his left hand in the Korean Conflict while performing an act of heroism that saved the lives of fellow Marines.Because of the loss of his drawing hand, Vic gave up his plans for a career as an artist and came to South Bend in 1952 to enroll at Notre Dame.While at Notre Dame, Vic was, for a term, Mayor of Vetville, a community of their wives and scores of children.At Vetville, Vic and Bonnie forged friendships that endure today.Following his undergraduate degree in political science he went on to law school at Notre Dame, graduating in 1959, becoming a served as legal aid attorney, chief deputy prosecutor, attorney for the Portage Township Trustee, and the County Drainage Board.For some time he was very active in the Democratic Party, and served as co-chairman of the Bobby Kennedy campaign in St.Joseph County in 1968.As an attorney in private practice with his sons, he was honest, courageous, and truly viewed the practice of law as a profession, a privilege that he never forgot.He often handled cases without charge, or neglected to send bills to clients, perhaps owing to his Depression-era childhood and his sense of duty, Christianity and his inclination to help people.He was also a truly practicing Catholic, never missing Sunday Mass.He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and a member of the St.Joseph County Bar Association. Vic was extremely proud of his Irish heritage, and made a yearly trip to Ireland from 1978 until 2002, and his yearly updated travelogue was sought out by travelers to the Emerald Isle.Vic was devoted to his mother, Irene, his family, friends, his country, the Marines, Notre Dame, and the Detroit Tigers.He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren, and was madly in loved with Bonnie until the end. The Lord broke the mold with which he created Vic McFadden.

19, 1924 Nov. 24, 2003 Winifred Jacqueline Mello, 79, of Mesa, passed away Monday, Nov.24, 2003. She was born in South Bend, on Jan.19, 1924, where she first met and married James A. Mello on Feb.28, 1944.They lived in South Bend while Jim, an All- American football player, attended the University of Notre Dame as a fullback under Coach Leahy from 1942-1946, followed by a move to Rhode Island, then Connecticut, where she was an executive secretary at the facility formerly known as Mansfield State Training School for many years, finally moving to Mesa upon retirement in 1986. She was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jim and his wife, Cindy of Lebanon, Timothy of Mesa, Pamela and her husband, Rudy of Apache Junction, and Debra of Gilbert, and by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Bob graduated from South Bend Central High School, was a World War II Army Air Force veteran, worked for South Bend Lathe Works for 25 years, retiring from the Bendix Corporation after 13 years, and worked for the Studebaker Corporation.He was a member of V.F.W.Post 360, and enjoyed bowling, fishing and golf.
