Banaszak, 83, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Wednesday, January 27th, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born on October 3, 1932, in South Bend, to the late Corbit and Gladys Banaszak. He was lifetime resident of the Michiana area and retired from Bendix Corp. after many years of service as a laborer. On November 7, 1953, in South Bend, he married Phyllis N.

Hamann, who preceded him in death on October 4, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bob, John, Ray and Freddy. Norbert is survived by a daughter, Sandy S. Nowaczewski of South Bend; a son, Thomas L. (Janice) Emerick of Mishawaka; a sister, JoAnn; a brother, Fred Banaszak of South Bend; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He enjoyed gardening, watching Notre Dame football, building and doing electrical work. Norbert will be dearly missed by his loving family and numerous friends he made through his life journey. His wishes were to be cremated and his loving family honored his wishes. Burial will take place at Mt.

Pleasant Cemetery at a later date. The family requests all memorial contributions be made to the charity of their choice. 26, 2016 SOUTH BEND Alvin Barnett, 88, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Alvin proudly served his country in the Paci during WWII with the United States Marine Corps. Alvin was always doing carpentry work along with his full time job at the foundry. After retirement he enjoyed gardening and flowers.

Visitation for Alvin will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016, from 11-1 pm in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Mishawaka, IN. A funeral service will begin at 1 pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Denis D.

Eck Nov. 12, 1954 Jan. 27, 2016 SOUTH BEND Denis Eck, 61, passed away Wednesday morning at Memorial Hospital. Denny was born in South Bend to the late Loren and Lucille Eck on November 12, 1954. Denny married his high school sweetheart, best friend, and the love of his life, Lynn, on October 21, 1978 at Holy Cross Church in South Bend.

Lynn survives Denny along with his loving daughter, Katie Eck (Matt Timm) of Fishers, IN; his son, Bryan (Stacy) Eck, and adoring grandson, Caleb, of South Bend, IN. He is also survived by his brother, Loren (Patricia) Eck, of Fort Wayne, IN; his sister, Rachel (Tom) Myszak, of South Bend, IN; twin sister, Denise (Steve) Hall, of South Bend, IN; and Lorraine (Ken) Wheeler of Vancouver, WA. Denny is also survived by his Mother-in-Law, Marilyn Stafford, of South Bend, IN, who Denny loved dearly. Denny attended Holy Cross grade school. He then went on to graduate from LaSalle High School in 1973.

After LaSalle, Denny attended Lincoln Technical Institute in Indianapolis. Denny has always had a strong work ethic. His hard work was evident through his eagerness to take on new and challenging positions. Denny was a Field Service Technician for Materials Handling Equipment Corporation for over 20 years. Following that, Denny served as the Fleet Maintenance Manager for DHL.

Denny then took on the position as the Lead Mechanic for Aramark Uniform Services. After his time with Aramark, Denny was offered his dream job as a Group Leader at AM General. Denny and his family were very proud of his abilities as a highly skilled mechanic. Denny was best known for his beaming smile, infectious laugh, and heart DHL. Whether he was working or relaxing, he was always happiest outside. In addition to his family, Denny cared greatly about his friends.

Everyone was drawn to his charismatic personality and endless generosity. Denny has several life-long friendships that were developed over the years, many of which grew through time spent with members of M.R. Falcons. He will be missed by countless close friends, neighbors, and colleagues. The family is grateful for the kind and gentle care given by the nurses and doctors of Memorial Oncology team.

They ensured Denny was always comfortable and had the best care possible. Visitation will be from 8 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. To honor life, services will be held at 3:00 p.m.

26, 2016 SOUTH BEND Dwight C. Holland, 81, of South Bend, died at his home Tuesday, January 26, 2016. The Jasonville, IN, native was born October 27, 1934, to Seylic P. Norna (Barley) Holland. An area resident most of his life, the avid Notre Dame fan and collector of ND memorabilia was retired and a member of Southside Church of God.

In addition to his parents, Dwight was also preceded in death by his son, Dwight, Jr. in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Dianna Holland; daughters, Toni Holland Kim Holland, both of West Terre Haute; grandchildren, Josh Phillips in California, Amanda (Dan) Deevers, Seth Gerdink and Wyatt Holland, all of West Terre Haute; Colburn (Jessica) Holland Misty (Todd) Trame, both of Indianapolis; and 6 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Farrell (Pat) Holland of Mishawaka, and sisters, Marsha (Leland) Bennett Shari Myszak, both of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Viola Newman, and Billy Dan Hanback. Robbie was born on August 5, 1996, in South Bend, to Robert and Lori (Hanback) Newman Sr. Surviving are his mother, Lorrie Newman of Osceola; father, Robert Newman Sr. of Mishawaka; daughter, Jade Mercee Newman of Osceola; his Ashley Manns of Osceola; siblings, Nathan William Newman of Zephyrhills, FL; Amanda Parker, Lexi Ann Newman and Laci Mae Newman, all of Osceola; and his grandmother, Linda L. Stankus of Osceola.

Robbie graduated from Penn High School and Ross Medical Education Center. 12, 1938 Jan. 26, 2016 SOUTH BEND Mary Alice (Burich) Pernic, 77, of South Bend, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016, in Memorial Hospital. Mary was born on November 12th, 1938, in Granite City, Illinois, the fifth of seven children. Mary met her husband, Edward, at a Guys and Dolls dance in 1967 in St. Louis, Missouri.

They were married on March 14th, 1970, in Granite City, Illinois. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Germany, where Ed was stationed in the U.S. Army. They took advantage of every opportunity to travel Europe, including their ancestral lands of Croatia and Slovenia. After discharge from the Army in 1971, Ed and Mary moved to South Bend, Indiana, where they raised four children Rachel, Matthew, Trevor and Allison.

Mary was a loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and a master of crochet. Her strong Catholic faith was evidenced by her well-worn Rosary, and her compassion for those in need by her frequent contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project, Boys Town, St. Hospital, the South Bend Center for the Homeless, Toys For Tots, and Shriners Hospital. He was born on April 3, 1930, in Fort Wayne, IN, to Oscar C. and Vera Rothe. On January 31, 1951, in Fort Wayne, IN, he married Shirley Dyer, who preceded him in death on January 7, 2011, and they were married 59 years and 11 months.

Jack is survived by his three children, Craig (Carol) Rothe of Vallejo, CA; Sharon J. (David) Evans of South Bend, IN, and Jeff (Leslie) Rothe of Lakeville, IN; seven grandchildren, Courtney (Ian) West of Collinsville, OK; Callie (Chad) Hartmann of Houston, TX, Megan (Mark) Thompson and Sarah Evans, all of South Bend, IN, and Ben Rothe (Erica, of Fort Wayne, IN, Elizabeth (Roger) Gonzalez of South Bend, IN, and Emma Rothe of Lakeville, IN. Jack lived most of his life in South Bend, IN, after moving from Fort Wayne, IN. Growing up in Fort Wayne he graduated from Concordia High ROTC program. After graduating from high school, Jack met the love of his life, Shirley, both of them employed at the telephone company in Ft.

Wayne. He retired in 1995 as president of Oliver Estate, working his way up from Accountant. He attended Indiana University-South Bend and was a life-long I.U. fan. He was a long-time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in South Bend, IN, where he served as Deacon, Usher and held many other roles over the years.

Jack swam over 1000 miles at the YMCA, swimming laps nearly every day. He always looked forward to seeing his best friend, Dick apple Mrozinski at the Y. Jack also dearly loved spending time with his dear cousins, Dave, Mern, and Elaine. He was a talented carpenter who did his own home renovation work through the years, and also loved gardening. He and Shirley traveled extensively before his retirement, enjoying winters in Sanibel Island, Fl.

Our thanks to those who provided loving nursing care for Dad, Doris Williams, Lynnette Andedo, Cathy Ngumuya, and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Gonzalez. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday January 29, 2016 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 805 S. 29th South Bend, IN 46615. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 am. 28, 2016 ELKHART Dollie Mae Russell, 85, died peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends. She married Hunter Russell in 1947, who preceded her in death in 2001. From this union 10 children were born: 3 sons, Horis, Eugene (Elaine) of Jonesboro, GA, Calvin of Fort Wayne, IN, 5 daughters: Sarah (Ernest) Fletcher, Mary, both of Elkhart, Virginia of Los Angeles, CA, Helen (Ron) Robinson of Corona, CA, and Lois (Ike) Stewart of Chandler, AZ. Four brothers: Otis (Hattie Bell) Mathews of Thomaston, GA, Otha (Frances) Mathews of Jonesboro, GA, James (Annie and Jessie B. of South Bend, IN; three sisters, Fannie Lou Searcy and Rosie Mae Carter, of Thomaston, GA, and Ruby Pearl Walker of Butler, GA.

She also leaves 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, special friends: Lois Land and Doretha Holmes, and a special daughter, Linda Hairston. She was preceded in death by two children: James and Catherine; 3 sisters: Susie Kay Ellis, Climmie Mae Rivere, and Everlee Howell; 2 brothers: Henry Brown and Thurman Mathews; and 1 great-grandchild, Rain Davis. Dollie was employed as a machinist for 22 years at Buchanan Metal Form, then retired after 7 years with St. Joseph Hospital in environmental services.
