A show-house of modem construction, of friendly atmosphere and of the most up to date equipment, -the theater has announced its bid for patronage on the merits of good entertainment as welL With his appointment as house I manager of the Fifth Avenue theater. Gene Bender has the distinction of being one of the youngest men to hold such an office in the show business. Beginning as usher at the theater when that house opened a year ago, he was soon promoted to the office of chief of service. Mr.

Bender is a lifelong resi- dent of La Crosse. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bender, 2418 Thirteenth Place, and is a graduate of Central high school. His father a member of this citys police department.

The Fifth Avenue was construct- ed on an architectural plan which combines modernity with coziness. Through design, furnishing and decorations a homelike. atmosphere has been created. Comfortable Seats The Fifth Avenue boasts 4801 seats and all of them soft, rest-1 ful chairs of the air cushion type. They are 'all on one floor, I while upstairs are located the womens, lounge room and the projection booth.

A carpeted foyer separates the auditorium of the theater from the lobby through which the visitor enters from the street. The front of the theater is of an interesting and unusual design. Curved lines of panoramic nature grace both the front wall and the canopy overhead. Construction of the exterior is mainly of polished stainless steel and a flame flashed brickwork. A bright appearance at night is created by the spectacular use of illumination.

The Fifth Avenue plans to devote Itself altogether to motion picture entertainment, and therefore has provided the most advanced type of equipment for movie presentation. Western Electric sound, Motiograph projection machines and an especially designed screen for the best transmission of picture and sound are stock items of equipment in the new house. A policy of selected motion pictures at popular prices has been announced for the Fifth Avenue, Bookings for the showhouse will be under the personal direction of Mr. Bolnick, while Mr. Bender will supervise the actual operation of the house.

Opening Attraction Beginning with Every Night at Eight, in which Alice Faye and George Baft are starred, an imposing schedule of movie hits has been announced for the Fifth Avenue theater. In addition to Miss Faye and Raft in Every Night at Eight, Patsy Kelly and Frances Langford also have important roles in the picture. It is the opening screen feature of the new house and will be shown for two days, Wednesday and Thursday. Friday and Saturday of this week will bring Thunder Trail to the Fifth Avenue. Gilbert Roland and Marcia Hunt have the leads in this Zane Grey melodrama which boasts a fast moving story of the outdoors.

It will be followed next Sunday by the popular musical production, Waikiki Wedding, with its imposing cast including Bing Crosby, Shirley Ross, Martha Raye and Bob Bazooka Burns. Other outstanding shows to play the Fifth Avenue in the near future are Jungle Princess with Dorothy Lamour, Thin Ice with Sonja Henie, Swing High, Swing Low with Carole Lombard, and Life Begins in College with the Ritz Brothers.
