The talk began with the con' ntion of the land forces of country, the national army, national guard and the re- corps. In comparison with try strength of DuVcoun- with that of other nations, United States, though among the largest, makes at present a poor showing. The total strength of America's military force is lew than half a million men, and the combat strength is only one fifth of that number. At this point, the speaker took occasion to pay tribute to the "doughboys" as the only arm at the service able to hold what it takes. Major Walters seemed to indors the reported attitude of the Presi dent toward "frontiers" in case 5n which the army holding a frontier is in better position to deal disabling blows.

The speaker took occasion to indorse military train ing, saying that It is also favored by a majority of public sentiment as shown by.the increasing mem bership of the Reserve Officers Training Corps. Before the program was begun an announcement was "made by Mrs. Ted O'Malley regarding the social center for the treatment of ailing underprivileged children. A like appeal was made by Charles A. Stauffer in behalf of the recreational grounds in the southwestern part of the city sponsored by the Rotarians.

Deddens, deputy county attorney, said Davis, 44, a semi-invalid, was struck twice on his jaw, knocked to a cement floor and suffered brain concussion after he and Ketchum disputed over a small debt Injury Damage Suit Amended amended complaint seeking $35,000 damages from Louetta Bradford and Kathryn Gilliland for asserted injuries Catherine Hernandez, 16 years old, suffered last September 28 when struck by one of two cars involved in a collision, was on file yesterday in superior court by Maria Hernandez, mother of Catherine, and her guardian ad litem. The complaint accuses the defendants of negligence in connection with the collision which occurred at Fifth and Roosevelt streets, and in which Miss Hernandez was struck by the Bradford car. She was taking a small child to school and was walking on the sidewalk at the time, according to the com- urther alleges Catherine was pinned against a tree and suffered permanently disfiguring injuries to her face and leg, when the Bradford car left the street, after the collision, and struck her.
