TUESDAY, MARCII 9, 19 IS THE ESCANABA (MICH.) DAILY PRESS PAGE THREE WOOD WASTES TO BE STUDIED Forest Products Parley Will He Held In Chicago Methods to produce animal feeds from wood waste will be an important part ol the discussion at the forthcoming meeting of the Forest Products Research Society according to Fred W. Go V. 'halk, the national president, and technical director of the American Lumber and Treating Chicago. The goal of the program is the full utilization of the forest wealth and lower cost wood products for die consumer. Practical methods for converting sawmill, woodworking and furniture plant wastes into merchantable products can be an important factor in the future growth of towns and cities where wood-using plants are now located, he explained.

The groundwork is now being iaid to employ such common wood wastes as bark, slabs and low-grade lumber to allow 100 per cent utilization of the log. Bark alone will find use in paper and wallboards, Gottschalk said. It includes the development of a yeast product from wood waste after simple chemical processing that can be fed to cattle and poultry. Over 500 executives of woodworking plants and related industries will meet March 22, 23 and 2-4 at the American Furniture Mart Building in Chicago according to Charles H. White, meeting chairman, and assistant secretary of the American Walnut Manufacturers association.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in wood utilization and production.
