After teaching In Saskatchewan, Joan moved to Hawaii for a number of years. Upon returning to Canada she settled In Nanalmo where she began a new career in automotive sales.

At the time of her death, she was employed with Parksvllle Chrysler. She enjoyed the Interaction with her co-workers and her customers. Joan Shabblts Is survived by her mother Grace Shabbits of Saskatoon, SK, sister Marie (Werden) Keeler of Thunder Bay, ON. brother James (Gloria) of Nanaimo, BC. and brother Thomas of Saskatoon, SK.

She is also survived by niece Katherine Keeler of London, ON, nephew Gordon Keeler of Menlo Park, CA, nephew Michael Snabbifs of Vancouver, BC and niece Megan Shabbits of Vancouver, BC. He Is Simpson occurred at woyal University Hospital Saskatoon, on December 29, 1997. following a brief illness. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Gertrude Mary Rowles; her husband, George Wilfred Simpson; her brother, William and sister-in-law, Laura and sisters, Jessie (Mrs.

A.L.) Caldwell and Phebe Winifred Rowles. She is survived bv her brother. sorority for women students, ond worked In many activities for the betterment of these students. In 1950 she became a full-time professor In the college, completing a Doctorate In education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1956, and published a history of Canadian university home economics programs, which grew out of her thesis. She undertook early research on freezing foods, and published on this topic.

In 1959 she was President of Canadian Federation of University Women, having been a member since 1933. She was appointed as Dean of the College of Home Economics In 1965. She contributed at many levels to home economics, dietetics and consumer affairs. She was a member of the Saskatoon YWCA board of directors; advisory council of consumers for Health and Welfare Canada Canadian Federation of Food Technologists; American Dietetic Association and American Home Economics Association. She was long time member and Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Home Economics Association, President 1952-54 ond an Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Dietetic Association.

She was named a Fellow of the Saskatchewan Home Economics Association 197Z and. as a Member of the International Federation of Home Economics, gave the keynote oddress at the Interregional conference. Finland 1972. She married Professor G.W. Simpson In 1964.

She received the Can-oda Centennial Medal in 1967. retiring as Dean Emeritus in 1972 after seven years as Dean. In 1974 a lectureship In her honour was established by alumnae, colleagues and friends, ond in 1980 she was listed tnThe book Notable Saskatchewan Women. Dr. Simpson was Inducted into the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame In 1981; given a Century Saskatoon award of appreciation In 1982; Installed os a member of the Order of Canada in 1987.

Ed worked as a travelling salesman for General Foods and Nabob for many years until for health reasons, he hod to take an earrv retire ment. She attended Normal School In Saskatoon and taught In rural schools before graduating from the University of Saskatchewan 1932 with a Bachelor of Household Science, winning the Rutter Prize as most distinguished graduate that year. She then joined the Extension Department, becoming Girts' Work Supervisor in the Deportment of Women's Work 1936. This Involved conducting Farm Girts' Camps, short extension courses In Home Economics, ond atona with or no acnievemenTs was to serve as President of the SAJHL for nine years.
