To remedy this nature has made the fluid in the stomach acid and the bile in the small intestine alkaline. Now with this bit of information, you are not going to revoultionize the world but pharmacuetical manufactures have used this little bit of information in making some of their pills.

For example, aspirin or salt tablets upset some peoples stomach so they put an acid resistant coating around the tablet but it will dissolve immediately in an alkaline solution. The tablet goes thru the stomach unchanged, hits the small intestine where it is absorbed and dosen't cause any problems to the stomach. Some long acting or time released capsules such as Contac work on a different principle. The different pellets are covered with membrane of varying thicknesses that allows fluid to slowly pass thru. Then comes the layer of medicine and the center is made of starch or something like that. When you swallow the pill the fluid goes tnru the membrane, thru the drug and reaches the starch in the center.

The starch then swells and the pellet burst and the drug is released. The thickness of the membrane determines the time it takes the fluid to get to the center and con- siquently you have a slow release of the drug over a period of time.
