Rains make area cattlemen happy rains covered a wide area around San Antonio and brought out varying emotions among land owners. Those who already had their oats in the ground were as happy as happy could be. Those who were planning to plant their oats Tuesday or Wednesday were not quite as happy about the rains, for the fields will be too wet for them to get in for a few days. But the latter will not be sad about the rains. The downpour will assure them of a good season in the ground when they do have a chance to get out and do the planting.

The burglars were convinced enough to sell the "fences" about $1.5 million worth of stolen merchandise for only about two-thirds of the $100,000 provided by the federal Law Enforcement Assist ante Administration. The burglars weren't the only ones convinced.

Agent arrested When officers of the suburban Atlanta-area DeKalb County police force kicked in the door of one undercover agents' home base, they just trying to make it look good. They arrested the agent and thought they had broken a fencing ring. That arrest wound up building credibility for the undercover agents in Atlanta and even brought an offer to whoever had informed authorities about the operations base. The project began last March with agents making contacts slowly in order to arouse little suspicion. Agents eventually won such trust from burglars that the criminals furnished licenses and Social Security cards to prove who they were.

Those cards helped authorities in making out 650 warrants charging some 250 persons.
