After all, you want reading to be second nature to them and so do we our future depends on it and so does your children's! Sewage reported in river MOOSE! JAW iCIM -City engineer Al Seim high-timer said about 2.5 million gallons of raw sewage got into the Moose Jaw Itiver when a trunk sewer system started to fall around Christmas, But, said Schwlngh-amer, the problem was not as serious as people think as most have the wrong Idea of what raw sewage really is. Many think that discharges from.

say. toilets, are pouring into the river but this is wrong. About 99 per cent of the sewage is wash water from dishwater. sinks, laundry water, and probably the balance could be from other sources, including toilets. Schwinghamer said there was absolutely no danger and the system, though defective since Christmas, did not totally fail until last Thursday.

The total failure was discovered Saturday and repaired by Monday. When the sewer was flushed out items such as rope, bricks, timber and layers of fat from the meat-packing plants which operated in the area previously were found. he said. These, coupled with the age of the system which was built in 1910. were major factors.

Roger McDonald, director of the Saskatchewan environment department water pollution branch, said Wednesday department officials will investigate the matter sometime this week. Kaedings statements argued S-P Services Jim Wright, president of the Palliser Wheat Growers Association, said Wednesday in Saskatoon that Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Edgar Kaeding either is misinformed or is acting against farmers best interests. Wright was reponding to a report that the Province of Saskatchewan supports the Canadian wheat board's action to limit the number of producer-loaded cars. Kaeding said new wheat board regulations make sense in view of current grain-car shortages. The rule changes make it more difficult for farmers to bypass grain companies and load rail cars themselves.

The Palliser president said producer-loaded cars represent only a tiny fraction of the cars available to grain companies. Women claimed segregated REGINA (LP) -Women are often the first to be laid off during periods of economic restraint because they are segregated into service, clerical and support work, a number of speakers at a discussion on women agreed Wednesday. Paul Gingrich. University of Regina professor, disagreed slightly, saying the major problem for women stuck in clerical and like jobs is their lesser chance for promotion. Men in producing occupations had been hard hit by recent layoffs in mining and similar industries: Both (men and women) have suffered equally.

Gillian McCreary, acting women's division director in the provincial labor department. said job segregation has been the major factor in unemployment among women. Service and support positions are expendable and can be cut while employees with a more direct line to production" cannot be laid off as easily, she said.
