McGwire, Griffey and Sosa are all chasing the home-run record of 61 set in 1961 by Roger Maris of the New York Yankees. One highlight from the all-star break is the home run derby (Monday, 5 p.m. on TSN).

Prior to the all-star break, the networks are loading up on baseball. The Toronto Blue Jays meet the New York Mets (today, 4 p.m. on TSN) and then host Tampa Bay for a three-game set, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. CBC has the Friday (4 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m.) games while TSN (10 a.m.) shows the wrap up game on Sunday. The struggling Seattle Mariners travel to Arlington for a three-game series against the Texas Rangers.

Friday's game is 5:30 p.m. on Ch. 14 while Saturday's contest is also at 5:30 p.m. on Ch. 21.

TSN has Sunday's game at 5 p.m. The Montreal Expos can be seen today (4 p.m. on Ch. 3) in interleague action at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. On Satur- day (4 p.m.

on Ch. 3 and TSN), the Expos meet the defending World Series champions Florida Marlins, who have totally revamped their team in a money-saving measure. WORLD CUP JLNL: With a couple days off after deciding the Final Eight in the World Cup, vF the quarter-finals are set for Friday and Saturday. In the opener (Friday, 7:30 p.m. on TSN), Italy meets France while defending champion Brazil takes on Denmark at noon (Ch.

16 and TSN). On Saturday, TSN and Ch. 16 have dou-bleheader quarter-finals with the Netherlands against Argentina at 7:30 a.m. and Germany vs. Croatia at noon.

Ch. 30 (TSN) Wimbledon women's Wednesday's double-header Montreal at Winnipeg and Hamilton at Calgary. TSN has a five-year agreement for broadcast rights. Rod Smith, Gord Miller and John Wells will handle the play-by-play for TSN while former CFLers Glen Suitor and Leif Pettersen will provide the analysis. James Duthie, who worked at Vancouver Television (VTV), will host TSN's CFL Live and adidas Friday Night Football.

Duthie will be joined by former player Chris Schultz and Eric Tillman, an ex-general manager, on the panel. Seven of the Lions' regular season games "will be shown, including July 10 (6 p.m.) at Edmonton and July 16 (7:30 p.m.) at home against Toronto. The other games are Aug. 14 (5 p.m.) at Winnipeg, Sept. 5 (7:30 p.m.) at B.C.

Players, worried the league will try to starve them into submission by cancelling games, secured lines of credit with several major banks and loan guarantees from the unions representing baseball, football and hockey players.
