Victoria 250-39 1-9696 9787 Fourth St. Sidney 250-655-9669 mm f. -w i CORNWELL, Reginald George "Bumpy" Will be sadly missed by wife Barbara, children Elaine (Ray) and Grant (Rowena), grandchildren Christine, Robert, Reyna, Miles and Bryan and great grandchildren and his close friend and brother-in-law Wallace. Born 1919 in Uren (Pee Town, he called it) Saskatchewan to Ernie and Nelly Cornwell. Reg worked odd jobs through school as well as at his parents general store.

He taught himself to play trumpet and saxiphone and would swing with the "Star playing dance gigs around southern Saskatchewan. Reg joined the army at the start of WW2 but quickly switched to the Royal Canadian Air Force. He became a pilot and a flight instructor where he trained hundreds of new pilots in Harvard and Cessna Crane aircraft. He never lost his love of flying and would engage us with many stories of his flight training days. Near wars end, Reg married Barbara Pearce.

They lasted a fulfilling sixty-seven years together. Reg began employment with Imperial Oil Exploration in Alberta as a surveyor but soon after found himself working as an "oil scout" which meant he was something of a spy and was often sent to "observe" a competitor's oil rig from a distance to determine the well's depth, speed of drilling etc. This was accepted practice and a respcted vocation, and it provided us with even more interesting stories. Reg loved the outdoors. Reg had a heart attack and open heart surgery in 1971.

This slowed him down only temporarily. After a few years in Calgary, he and Barbara retired to Galiano Island where he turned a cottage into a comfortable, modest paradise overlooking Sturdies Bay. He built rooms to accomodate all in the family looking to escape to Nana and Bumpy place. On Galiano he was busy as Lions Club President and organising golf tournanments. Reg loved to tinker.

He was happiest building or repairing something. He met many friends while helping out at his son's power equipment shop in Sidney during his retirement years. Reg was challenged by an amazing series of medical setbacks in recent years but somehow always managed to pull through with couragous spirit. He survived everything but old age. Bumpy "went west" peacefully in the early hours of November 17th at ninety-one.

As per his request, no service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Galiano Lions Club or Salvation Army would be appreciated. Dodd, Peter Carter June 16 1930 November 25, 2010 Spent his life, together with his wife Erica, encouraging understanding between Moslem cultures and the West. He was born and grew up in Beirut, Lebanon, and attended high school at South Kent in New York state. After graduating from Princeton he received his PhD in Sociology from Harvard University, followed by twenty years teaching at the American University of Beirut.

Quoting a former student: "His modesty, demeanour, character, respect for others, profound understanding of the concerns of the Arab world and unreserved empathy with its national struggles made him a hero in our Later, he joined the United Nations, before becoming Director of the Fulbright Foundation in Islamabad, Pakistan. Retiring to Victoria, he was active with the Canadian Institute of International Affairs (CIIA). Peter spent happy years in Victoria, enjoying the many good friends whose warm support is greatly appreciated these last months. Our thanks go to the University Choir and to the Mardi Minstrels, who indulged his passion for music.
