Emily has taught us all lessons on friendship, positivity, understanding. empathy and true love. Emily spent her childhood in Squirrel Cove on Cortes Island in a home built by her parents, and attended elementary school there before moving on to New Mexico and Courtenay for high school, where she graduated from G.P.

Vanier. After completing her B.Sc. in Biology at the University of Victoria in 2002. Emily received her M.D. at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario in 2005.

Emily launched enthusiastically into a five-year psychiatry residency through UBC, pioneering a fulltime psych residency in Victoria, where she lived from 2005. Emily's industriousness, initiative and endless positivity have made their mark on Victoria's psychiatry community. She embraced her life's work with vigor, only to be interrupted briefly by her diagnosis with cancer in December 2006. Her studies and involvement with all aspects of her program resumed after a short course of treatment, before her repeat diagnosis with metastatic disease. She retired from her program, finally, after completing her fourth year oral exams in late 2009.

That was one of the most difficult moments Emily faced with characteristic bravery. Emily will be dearly missed by family, friends and colleagues. DEATHS and FUNERALS It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Craig Harold Mains of Edmonton, Alberta in a tragic motorcycle accident near Needles, California on Friday, February 19, 2010. Craig was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on June 14, 1950 and grew up in Winnipeg nurtured by a loving, caring, close family. These straight up, prairie values stuck with him throughout his life and made him the decent, honest, hard working guy everyone he came in contact with admired. In his early twenties he became a crane operator and was highly respected in his trade. A natural born entrepreneur and charismatic leader, in 1994, he started his own crane rental business which, boosted by the combination of his unique people skills and vast knowledge of the industry, rapidly grew to become one of the largest privately owned crane rental companies in western Canada with an American subsidiary, Mains USA.

Craig was supremely proud and confident in the fiercely loyal, talented team he'd put together, the sky high standards they'd set and the dedication they've shown throughout the years to the group of companies and their loyal clients. He would be especially proud and grateful at this time for the love and support they've extended to his heart broken family. Carolyn would like to thank each and every one of them from the bottom of her heart and would like to reassure the customers and friends of Mains Crane Rigging Ltd. and Mains USA that they have been left in competent, caring hands. The team is carrying on taking care of things the way Craig would have wanted.

He put his heart and soul into building the business and will be with them in spirit as they move forward. First and foremost though, Craig was known for his love, devotion, and generosity to his wife, family and friends. A curious, brilliant, big hearted, fun loving man with a legendary sense of humour, he was absolutely -magic and embraced life to the fullest. In his spare time he loved to head off into the desert and hills from Cave Creek, Arizona on his Harley, either solo or with his buddies, and was smitten by the game of golf. He had more clubs than Tiger Woods.

He loved fine wine, expensive cigars, and chicken wings. Craig is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; daughters, Arliss Mains, Charlotte Harris and son-in-law Jeff Harris; son, Daniel Mains, granddaughters, Cheryl Mains, Shauna Mains, Cindi Mains and Samantha Mains; grandsons, Derek Mains, Brandon Harris and Tyler Harris; mother, Oral Mains; brother, Laurie Mains; father-in-law, George Wells; mother-in-law, Jo Wells; and countless friends from all over the continent. Craig was predeceased by three very special people: his uncles, Dr. Jim Lawson of Carman, MB and Hugh John MacKenzie of Winnipeg, MB; and his grandmother, Mrs. Edith Dunn of Boissevain, MB.

Jim and Hugh John were like a dad to Craig and he absolutely adored his grandmother. The family will be eternally grateful for the love and support shown by close friends, Bill and Sabrina Elkington from Edmonton, AB; Harry Driver from Duncan, BC; and Dick and Gail Johnson from Cassidy, BC. We could not have made it through this difficult time without them. We would also like to express our appreciation to Deputy Mark Johnson of the Needles Police Department for his kindness, gentleness and consideration, which was above and beyond the call of duty. A Funeral Service will be held at the Bardal Funeral Home on Thursday, March 4, 2010 in Winnipeg, MB at p.m.

A Celebration of Craig's Life will be held at Highlands Golf Club in Edmonton, AB on Saturday, March 6, 2010 4.00 p.m. More information is available at www.mainscrane.com. A memorial fund for Craig has been set up at the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, AB and the family has requested that a donation be made in Craig's behalf in lieu of flowers. RALPH, Martha 1953 2010 Born Martha Joanne Forslund on September 21, 1953 on the first day of fall, her mother almost named her Autumn, but she was lovingly nicknamed "the Swede" by her father and called "Martini" by her friends. Now she has suddenly soared away from us to Valhalla in the autumn of her life. Martha was the middle child of a large loving family of 11. She leaves us with her two beautiful children, Bonnie Craig and Colin Ralph.

She is survived by brothers and sisters Christine, Wayne, Teresa, Jill, Valeska, Stephen, Rachael, Ross, Robert, Coral and of course the large extended family members of whom she all embraced. Family was everything to Martha, even while balancing a solid 35 year career with BC through challenging years. She had been retired for 6 months when she left us. Martha was a proudly supportive mother involving herself deeply with her children's endeavours right through to their adulthood and beyond. She was always there by their sides, whether it was helping Bonnie with her post secondary career path studies or cheering Colin on the sidelines of the soccer field.

Her "second mother" role was enjoyed by many of her nieces, nephews, and her children's friends over the years. Martha loved having all the family near and we fondly remember the gatherings hosted at her Langford Lake home. She was our "constant contact" always keeping in touch with that unexpected call. Her strength was also a tangible thing picture her outdoors swinging the axe splitting a cord of wood over several days for the home's woodstove. Our lumberjack could then transform to our beautiful sister.

We still see her at Jill's summer gathering flitting around like a butterfly playing grass volleyball in her bikini at middle age. She will be deeply missed by all of the family, extended family and her circle of friends. Be peace Martha. You had a blessed, full life but just left the party a little too soon. Some babe is Swede A celebration of Life will take place Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 1 5 PM at the Langford Legion 761 Station Road.

William James Elliot A True Gentleman Passes Bill went to meet his maker, Lord and friend on February 24, 2010. Born in Mount Nebo, Saskatchewan on December 1, 1919, Bill grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and raised his family in Victoria, BC. He was admired and loved by many for his integrity and gentle ways, his competitive spirit and his loyalty. Bill enjoyed all sports and was, in his humble words, 'a fairly decent' ball player (1st and hockey player (centre). His sports career was interrupted with 3 plus years of service in the RCNVR (Royal Canadian Naval Reserve) where his primary duty was as an anti-submarine detector in the North Atlantic.

An avid sports fan, his favourite teams were the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Vancouver Canucks and Boston Red Sox. Bill's other favourite pastimes were year round gardening in his treasured garden and greenhouse, listening to good music, dancing with his wonderful wife, and enjoying a game of bridge with friends. Bill's work career was in the field of office management (Canadian Pacific Express, Solicitor General Dept. William Head Penitentiary and Dept. of Veteran Affairs).

He also took great satisfaction from being in business with his brother, Pat, first in a convenience store in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and later owning and leasing a facility in Esquimalt, BC. Above all Bill was a devoted family man. He would readily tell anyone who asked that his family was his greatest pride, joy and concern. He was cherished by "all his He leaves to mourn his passing, his dearly beloved wife of 52 years, Irene; his daughters Judith Lynn Snow, Leslie Ann (Chris) Hebb, Sandra Rose Snow (Curt Griffiths), Alison Marie (lan) McKerlich; grandchildren, Lindsey, Drew and Jenna Hebb, Lauren and Gregor Fraser, Taylor and Logan McKerlich; and sister-inlaw, Marjorie Snow. The family wishes to thank Dr, Eric Shafonsky and staff for their compassionate and professional physical care, Monsignor LaPierre for his wise spiritual care and Victoria Hospice and staff for making it possible for Bill to spend his later days in peace and comfort surrounded by the people he so dearly loved.
