HOME DESTROYED BY FIRE The house of Joseph SnopkowsU, Walnut street, Pitteton township. Just over the Avoca borough line, was entirely destroyed by fire at an early hour yesterday morning. The house was occupied by Joseph Lease and family, who escaped in their night clothes. Damages are estimated at about $3,500, including the building and contents.

The fire was discovered in the roof, near the chimney, shortly after 1 o'clock. An alarm was telephoned to the Avoca Hose Company, which arrived on the scene in a short time, and went into service. The nearest plug was nearly 2,200 feet from the scene of the fire and both of the fire company's trucks were used to secure sufficient hose to reach from the fire plug to the blaze. Bethel M. E.

In the evening at 7:30 o'clock the pastor will speak on "The Lord's Prayer." John Gilroy, of South street, is suffering with en injured eye received when he pulled a wfee which was fastened In the ground. The wire came loose suddenly, one end striking him in one comer of the eye. An effort Is being made to save the sight, but whether it will be successful is not yet certain. A benefit dance for Earl O'Brien, popular football player, who is in the hospital suffering from injuries received in the mines eight months ago, will be held in Hughestown Hose House on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

The Boy Scout Troop will meet Monday night next week, instead of Tuesday evening, the regular meeting night. The children of Langcliffe Presbyterian Sunday School taking part in the Christmas pageant will meet at 7 o'clock this evening for rehearsal. The model weighs one ton, and eight feet high. EXETER WEEK'S ACTIVITIES IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS Eighth Grade Latin Club, Exeter High School, held another meeting Friday. The officers are: Stephen Manninl, president; Clara Dignani, secretary Sam felcherman, vice president; Leonard Viusko, reporter. The program was: "Roman Calendar," Julius Porlni; "Christmas Carol," Anna Yanchosky; "The Story of Cornelia." William Wruble; "Latin Money," Bernadetta "Adeste Fldeles," club. Pupils of Room 9 are very much interested in travel tales found In My Weekly Reader.

Last week they learned all about the discovery of diamonds in the great Kimberley Mine in South Africa. In this week's edition they found how diamonds were mined. They also learned that a diamond can cut the hardest steel. Pupils of the Sixth Grade, Casey Building, are featuring a "Santa Claus shop." Cut work for window decorations, free hand drawing for the black board, and toy making characterizing different animals are some of the activities of the children. The pupils of Room 8 have devised a Character Chart in order to rate themselves.

At the beginning each student received their deportment mark from report card. When guilty of a misdemeanor a colored button Is moved down. An opportunity of moving their button a point higher at the end of the day is given each child if he corrects bad points of conduct that day. A poster is being constructed by the pupils of the Sixth Grade, Casey Building. The title is "A in Health." Cleanliness was stressed and the pupils decided to make their own rules.

The pupils were divided into groups. During English period a group composed rhymes which corresponded to the rules. Since visual education 13 an Important factor, another group collected pictures which portrayed the rule. After the groups have completed the pictures and rhymes will be mounted on a poster. The pupils will make Individual booklets.

This helps to Improve English and health. It trains the pupils to co operate. The pupils of Room 11, Casey Building, have purchased desk outline maps of the United States. These maps are to be used by the children to give them a more vivid picture of place geography. The pupils of the Sixth Grade dramatized their reading lesson on Thursday afternoon.

The children selected the characters for the play. Dramatization gives the children good memory training, and a chance to express themselves orally. The children enjoy this type of work. The writing of numbers is being taught to the pupils of the First Grade, Rooms 1 and 2, Schooley Avenue Building. This is done by means of games and the drawing of various articles familiar to the children.

The idea of teaching numbers is to have the children recognize the different numbers without hesitation. In order to secure accuracy in the combinations, a rapid drill Is given dally in Room 4, Schooley Avenue Building. Perception cards are used and flashed before the class, responses to be given rapidly. In connection with this drill and to motivate same, number 'stories are given. These stories aid in developing conversational ability, as well as being number tests.

FORMER EXETER CONFECTIONER DIES Samuel Hershkowltz, aged 76, who conducted a confectionery business in Exeter for 15 years, died yesterday at the home of his son, David. 18 Sheldon street, Wllkesbarrc, after a brief illness. Surviving are five children: Mrs. Harry Fischer, of Edwardsville; Mrs. Joseph Friedman, of Philip and David, of Wllkesbarre.

GUNSTER WYOMING LEGAL PAPERS ISSUED FOR PETER M. DELUCA Numerous legal papers in connection with the arrest and extradition of Peter M. Deluca, in Belize, British Honduras, have been issued by Squire Mott, of this place.

Deluca is wanted for trial In connection with the murders of Alex. Campbell and Peter Reilly In Pittston in February, 1929. Richard Powell, chief county detective, is preparing to leave with the papers next week for Belize, to bring the prisoner back to Luzerne county for trial. He will be accompanied by Corporal John A. Carr, of Troop State Police, who has been in Harris burg and Washington this week securing extradition papers.

Rumors are afloat to the effect that Deluca is expected to give considerable Information concerning the double murder of union leaders that has never been divulged in any of the previous trials of men concerned in the case. Church Announcements. Rev. R. H.

Sinclair, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, will preach tomorrow morning at 10:30 o'clock on the subject, "Knowing What You Know." Sunday School at 9:30 a. m. Christian Endeavor at 6:30 p. m. Evening worship at 7:30 o'clock when the series of sermons on "The Prodigal Son" will be continued.

Methodist Episcopal Church services tomorrow will be as follows: Sunday School at 9:30 a. m. Morning worship at 10:30 o'clock. Epworth League at 6:30 p. m.

Evening service at 7:30 o'clock. The pastor will preach at the evening service and there will be special selections by the Mizpah Bible Class. Rev. G. F.

THOMAS MONAHAN PASSED AWAY TODAY. Mrs. Jane Monahan, aged 15 years, wife of Thomas Monahan, of 546 Donley street, Duryea, one of the best known residents of the town, died this morning at seven o'clock in Mercy Hospital, Scranton. She had been under treatment in the hospital for four weeks and underwent an operation on Wednesday of this week. Mrs.

Monahan was born in Vosburg, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Comer. The family moved to Plains when Mrs. Monahan was a child, and after spending a few years there, came to Duryea.

Mrs. Monahan had spent the greater part of her life in Duryea and had a wide circle of friends here, to whom her death will bring much sorrow. Twenty five years ago the deceased was married to Thomas Monahan, and continued to reside in Duryea. Mrs. Monahan was an active member of Sacred Heart Church and the parish societies.

Besides her husband, she is survived by the following sons and daughters: FrancU, Anna, teacher in Duryea schools, Marie, Thomas, Edward and Jean; also by the following brothers and sisters: Robert Comer, of Sayre; John Comer, of Pittsburgh: Martin Comer, of Old Forge: Thomas Ccmcr, of Pittston; Mrs. George Burkt, of Syracme; Mrs. Fred. Dletz, of Detroit, Mich. The funeral will take place Tuesday morning, leaving the home at nine o'clock.

A solemn high mass of requiem will be sung in Sacred Heart Church at 9:30 o'clock. Burial in St. John's Cemetery. Duryea.
