Southerland Funeral Home 1123 Harrison Avenue 785-8532 Dollar Future Is In Doubt LONDON (AP) The future direction of the dollar on European foreign exchanges remained in doubt Friday after the U.S. currency declined further In light pre-weekend trading. Meanwhile, the price of gold bullion rose. The dollar's decline in recent weeks seemed to abate midweek, buoyed by Treasury Secretary W.

Michael Blumenthal's remarks that a healthy dollar was essential to a stable world economy. But Friday's trading, though light, continued erratic and nervous. "Lately anything positive said about the dollar has tended to fall on deaf ears, especially among German and Swiss interests," said one London dealer. This in spite of a statement Friday by the president of the West German Bundesbank, Otmar Emminger, that the recent rise of the Deutsche Mark against the dollar was unjustified and the bank would attempt to smooth sharp exchange rate fluctuations.
